Betty and Leonard Carothers are up against a challenge they cannot face alone. In 2002 Betty was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her doctors at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital have told her that her only option is a life-saving lung transplant.
Betty is a loving wife, wonderful mother of five children, playful grandmother of seven, sister, aunt and good friend to many. Unfortunately, she is no longer able to do many of the everyday things we all take for granted. She is on oxygen 24 hours a day and sometimes loses her voice and is unable to continue a simple conversation.
Transplantation is life-saving, but very expensive. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be covered out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays; deductibles for pre- and post-surgery evaluations, as well as Betty will be on a lifetime of expensive anti-rejection medications. This is where your help is desperately needed.
A fundraising campaign in Betty’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
On behalf of ourselves and our family, thank you for your kindness, generosity, support and prayers. God bless you and yours.
