My husband, Jody Burnworth, is 44 years old. He was born with the Alpha One gene that has caused him to live with many serious lung problems for all of his life. He has no use of his right lung and his left lung has severe damage. His health has declined to the point that his doctors at the Indiana University Medical Center have told us that his only option now is a life-saving double lung transplant.
Jody is a loving husband, father and stepfather to nine children, fun grandfather of 13 and good friend to many. He is unable to work and do many things we all take for granted due to his poor health. He looks forward to being an active part of his children lives and watching his grandchildren grow up, and to becoming an active member of the community once again.
A transplant is life saving and will give Jody a quality of life he has never had. However, funding it is a monumental task & financially draining. Even with insurance, there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, testing and lab fees. We need to travel to the transplant center and will have to relocate at the time of transplant for up to six months. In addition, Jody will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. This is where your help is desperately needed.
A fundraising campaign in Jody’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great-Lakes Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
On behalf of Jody, our children, grandchildren and myself, thank you for your kindness, prayers, support & generosity. Please know that your contribution counts.
