On March 21, 2014 Paige was notified by Duke University Medical Center that she was officially listed to receive BOTH organs. The average wait time for kidney and pancreas transplant is 12-18 months. Exactly 14 days later Duke called to say organs were available and a match. A successful transplant took place on April 5th. We like to refer to this journey of Paige’s second chance as Moorelife.

The costs of double organ transplant and anti-rejection medications are astronomical. Many recipients have years to financially prepare, we only had two weeks. Insurance limitations and some expenses have no provision at all. The cost of living in Durham for 55+ days created an additional burden. Paige must take costly anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life, plus travel to Duke for repeated follow up visits.

To help with the financial burden of Paige’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
