Jim grew up in Harriman where he graduated from Harriman High School. He then married and they had three children before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina. They had a fourth child and moved back to Tennessee. They divorced and he remarried. Jim has worked as a laborer most of his life. In 2009, he changed his life goals and went back to school. He attended Tennessee Technology Center of Harriman where he earned a degree as a machinist. After a year of working as a capstan he was diagnosed with non alcoholic liver cancer, forcing him to leave his job. He is looking forward to returning to his normal life and getting back to his hobby of american picking. Jim and his family are committed to seeing him through this transplant.
Getting a transplant is life-saving but comes with great costs. Jim is facing very high expenses, even with insurance, including travel expenses, post-transplant medications of up to $1000 a month, clinic visits, and more. With your help Jim will have the help he needs with his unforeseen expenses.
Jim has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.

Jim is continuing to do well. We have gotten word that he should be coming home September 19th. We are all very excited that he is doing well, has kept in good spirit and is getting to come home, we are continuing to raise money for his medical expenses and medications as insurance does not cover it all. We have a fundraiser planned for November 1st in Kingston. Hope you all are able to attend.
Jim is recovering well from surgery. He is currently on several medications to help his body accept the new liver and to reduce the risk of his body rejecting it. He is currently staying in Nashville near the hospital for the frequent visits to have his platelets checks and for monitoring. Please continue to pray. Donations are greatly appreciated as they help cover the cost of his housing near the hospital, medications and transportation.
Thursday Jim got the call we had all been waiting for. The hospital called, they had a liver for him and needed him there as soon as possible. Jim and his son, Michael, jumped in the truck and made the couple hour drive to Vanderbilt. After a night of preparations for surgery we all waited patiently, some not so patiently, by the phone to hear he had been taken into surgery. Around 7:15 Friday morning Jim was taken into surgery. Several hours later he was in recovery and doing well. He is now talking, walking across the room with a walker and sitting up. So many answered prayers! Jim will have to move closer to the hospital for the next few months for continued care. Housing near the hospital is a cost we had not anticipated, but is necessary. Awaiting to hear what medications he will have to take once released from the hospital. Thank you all for your continued support. Donations will help with housing costs, medications, and clinic visits that are mandatory.
Thursday, August 7th Jim was transferred from Roane County Medical Center to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. They were able to remove his feeding tube on Friday and he has started easing back into solid foods. Jim's son, Michael, has been getting him up and moving around. He is feeling better and talking a lot more than earlier in the week. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
As of July 31, 2014 Jim was admitted into the hospital at Roane Medical Center for complications with his liver and ammonia levels. We would greatly appreciate any assistance and or support you could show for Jim in his time of need. Thank You for your support.
