Hello, my name is Alicia Hoover. I would like to ask for just a moment of your time. I need a lifesaving lung transplant and your help could make the difference.
In 2005, I was diagnosed with the genetic lung disease familial idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. This disease basically creates scar tissue around your lungs which in the end prevents them from expanding, making breathing very difficult especially with exertion. There is no cure; the only hope is to have a successful lung transplant.
In May of 2013 we found out we were expecting baby number three. Despite the clearances from the doctors to proceed with a pregnancy, I was in and out of the hospital that summer with small complications but my doctors continued to put my mind at ease telling me once the baby is born they would wean me off the oxygen. That didn’t happen. By November 7, I was admitted to the ICU for respiratory failure. I was only 31 weeks pregnant. Five days later my whole world felt like it came crashing down. I remember yelling “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe”. My next memory is waking up with a tube down my throat and no baby in my belly. I had flat lined as did my baby.
My fiancé, Dave, remained at my side and reassured me that the baby was in the NICU and doing okay. We named our beautiful baby boy Chance. By my six week checkup, I still was dependent on the oxygen so two months later, my pulmonary doctor felt that it was time for me to be evaluated for a transplant and to get all the clearances to be put on the list. I was shocked. By October 2014 I was placed on the wait list for a double lung transplant.
Even with insurance, we are facing very high transplant-related expenses. As of now I take about ten medications daily. After transplant, that number will increase significantly and the cost is exorbitant. As my caregiver, Dave must relocate near the center at the time of transplant. There will be the loss of his income at the time when we have to maintain our home and pay relocation costs. Travel back and forth to the center is 2.5 hours each way. These expenses and more are astronomical and a challenge we cannot face alone.
To help with the financial burden of my uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, consider a contribution.

A GOOD NEWS UPDATE- we are pleased to share our news that Alicia received her Gift of Life - her lung transplant - on Monday, February 29. We thank you for your support of our continued need to fund raise. Teresa.
I have been flown to Temple Hospital as of Thursday, January 21, 2016. I am being told that I will NOT be leaving the hospital without a transplant. There fore this will be my home until a match comes in. My score on the transplant list has increase significantly since being hospitalized. Most IPF patients are transplanted roughly between 35-45. I was a 44 since November. I am now an 83 almost 84. So this will give my team a broader area to search for lungs as they can now go outside our region. I would appreciate all the prayers and thoughts to continue. My body right now is drained in so many ways. As most of you know this is VERY BITTERSWEET for me and my family after losing my father in 2013 after his own battle with a double lung transplant.
Since this has been up, my disease has progressed. I am now at the top of the list as per say at my transplant hospital for my blood type. I now also suffer from pulmonary embolisms which are blood clots in my lungs which makes things worse. I am also now showing the mild signs of pulmonary hypertension which means due to my lungs not properly working my heart is starting to overwork. I had a scare in the beginning of October which almost left me on bed rest until I would get the call for lungs. Luckily doctors still push and stand behind me trying to be as active as possible as to not cause more problems. I had to extremely slow down and limits the things I do which I am struggling with because I don't want to miss out on life.
Well well well. Hello my luv I do know that you frequent this to look at all your support. So I decide I would sign your book and tell you congrats with your new lungs. Just to think you were worried. Lol. I live with you and am with you day and night I knew better than to have to worry so much (still worried more than you'll ever know lol) . I knew from the beginning you were gonna pan out just fine for the fact of I seen what you do around the house ( and not suppose to do). The way you take care of the kids and me. Well my luv here's to another chapter written off in our book called life. Just to think everyone that's been following so far is loving it ....wait till they see what all we write in the following chapters. I love you. Love always and IV ever,
Dave

Wishing you the best. Your family has been through countless ups and downs since I have known you but always seems to find the time to support others. God willing, this is just a temporary setback on the road to a successful transplant and recovery.
