I am David Ybarra I am a professional musician and music producer here in San Diego, Ca. I am also a Kidney Transplant recipient. I am so blessed to have received the gift of life. I am steadily recovering and am now looking forward to the second phase of this procedure…A Pancreas Transplant will extend the life of my donated kidney and will eliminate my diabetes altogether!
After the second transplant, I will be recovering and simply not able to earn a living…I need to cover my living needs (rent, food, etc.).
I have chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation, please click on the Donate Now button.

Thank you for your support!
Good Morning Everybody,
Life is amazing!
It has been over 9 months since my beautiful donor and friend Hudson gave me the gift of life. I am in good health and still visit the great team of doctors for checkups.
So now, I am now planning ahead for the second phase of this story. I am being placed on the national list for a Pancreas, thus ending my diabetes and extending the life of my kidney. I am going to need financial assistance during my recovery post transplant.
All of you that donated to my cause, I am so grateful, and now, ask to help me again. If you have anybody that may be touched by my story, please pass this link on.
God bless you all,
David
Hello all,
I am coming to my first month a kidney transplant recipient. It has been a unique challenge and God has been there for me the whole way. My doctors say that I am actually ahead of the game, function wise, but have some serious med related anxiety meltdowns. My Team has helped me through and for that I am grateful. I am still in a position of unemployment so if you are reading this and have any extra funds in your life, I sure could use the help. All The Best. David
The time is here March day I will receive a living donor kidney, I am so humbled and excited about this new lease on life. I thank god for my donor and longtime feriend Hudson...I love her dearly, she is giving me life. Hooo to the Ray!
Hello Friends and Family!!
Progress has been made...
My function is now at Stage 5 11% so we are planning for a March 11 transplant date, My donor Hudson and I are very excited!!!
I still have some small healing issues to handle on my foot but we are very optimistic.
Hello My Friends and Family,
I am just about to be relleased from my leg cast..hopefully, patience will pay off.I am at peace with the chain of events that led me to this moment, I know my God has many thing in store for me and I await the transplant. Love To All!
Hello, I am now in a healing cast for my foot, this is the maximum way to fix my issue. I am doing my best , but sometimes my patience is not so good. I have been down lately and have had friends and family come to cheer me up, I love you all.
Good Morning!
It appears that we are getting to full healing on my foot, Thanks UCSD Wound Care for helping me out. Still no ETA on a surgery date. Please pray for all to come together. Much Love, DHY
I just want to say to my family and friends I Love You.....,It can never be said enough.
I have been able to spend some quality time with my Angel/Donor Hudson, she is here for required meet with the transplant staff at Sharp K/P transplant. It is so great to catch up.
Hello Everyone,
I have been to several specialists and have come to the conclusion that surgery on my foot is not the answer. We are changing tact on the way we are treating wound care and will look to heal this foot very soon. I am blessed.
Good Monday Morning,
I have been informed on Friday that I will need to postpone my transplant surgery so that I may have a separate surgery on my foot, this must be done in order to have a sucessfull transplant. The good folks at Sharp K/P Transplant Center are really looking out for my best interests. We shall move ahead God willing.
Good News!!!
I have been informed that we have a tentative transplant date of October 15. My angel donor Hudson is coming to San Diego on Sept 30th to meet with surgeons, doctors and social workers . Happiness!!
Rough day so far...my body is rebelling and I am trying to work with what I have. Thanks Dr Ahn for nyour advice and help. Will have to rest a lot today. Hudsons testing is complete and is coming to San Diego in a week to talk with doctors and surgeons about plan, she has been a super trooper about all this. She is gold.
There seems to be a very quiet place here before the storm. No doctors this week, plenty of paperwork to fill out and arrangements to be made. I am so glad to have my girl, Lisa, by my side, as well as my kids and family. They Love me.
I urge everyone out there to investigate the issues of Living Donation and Diabetes.Talk to you all soon!
Good Afternoon Friends and Family,
I am heading towards End Stage Failure. I am rather toxic inside and am very tired, BUT my spirits are up. Thank You so much for your encouragement and love...that put the ummph! back in me. I will keep you posted Love DHY
Hello Everyone,
Testing has begun for Hudson Nin, she will take a Glocuse tolerence test to determine her ability to donate ,as did my daughter Heather. Please send you best wishes her way so that we can move towards a surgery day. Still shooting for mid October.
I have learned in life that change is part of the deal...I learned yesterday that my daughter Heather will not be able to donate a kidney to me.I love my daughter so dearly and ask folks to give her a big hug when you see her. By wanting to help me, I know that God smiles on her. Hudson Nin will step in as the alternate, again, I am so blessed to have more on my plate than I will ever know...To be continued....
As of today, I am launching an email campaign with all my friends and family to get involved with helphopelive.org. Keeping off of social media for the moment until I receive a surgery date. Please wish me the very best and we start!
Today is testing day for my daughter/ donor Heather. She is having Glucose Tolerence testing and having 14 vile of her blood drawn. This is not so comfortable for her because she is a bit squeemish about needles. She is doing this because she really loves me..it leaves me speechless sometimes.
Greetings one and all,
I am getting very close to a kidney transplant date. I have been blessed with two people that have stepped up as my matched donors, Heather Ybarra, my daughter and Hudson Nin, a very dear friend. The good folks at Sharp Kidney/Pancreas transplant center, here in San Diego are testing my daughter first and Hudson second as a backup. My overall health is not very good at the moment and working has become non existant. I am so glad for an organization like Helphopelive.org More to follow.

Dear Mr. Ybarra,
we don't know each other but when I read about your situation (Mr. Gregory Page - I'm a huge admirer of his music - shared the link) I thought even a little donation might help. Thankfully I'm only a type 2 diabetic for some years - with not much damage till now. But I can imagine how hard it must be for you.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and keep you in my thoughts that all will turn out just great for you.
Sending heaps of good vibes your way.
Sincere regards
across the ocean from Germany

Hi David. Thank you for the update. I have been thinking about you and the status of your condition. As you know, I know all too well about the struggles, life altering commitment and joy of being a kidney transplant patient having gone through the process with my mother-in-law. As your cousin I have seen you face adversity always with grace, dignity and of course humor. As this new chapter begins please know that I have faith in you! I am so glad that you have an approved match. What a blessing. Thoughts, prayers and much love headed your way. HelpHOPELive is a wonderful organization.
Colleen Krause
Dave, so sorry to hear about your struggles, but very happy to hear that your prospects for recovery are looking so positive. Hang tight and get better, OK? Gotta hear you slap that bass again! I'll look forward to hearing about any fundraiser shows & such. Best always, Ken.
