Thomas Carr is a 66 year old Vietnam Veteran who is very ill. After years of battling Interstitial Lung Disease, a lung transplant is his only hope for survival. Thomas, who is one of the most caring people you would ever hope to meet, needs our help because the costs involved with a transplant are so overwhelming.
Thomas grew up in Manhattan and graduated from Delehanty High School. He then pursued an Associate’s degree in engineering at a Long Island community college. Afterwards he moved to South Carolina to pursue further education at Bob Jones University where he met his wife, Dorothy. After Thomas and Dorothy married, Thomas worked at the Post Office as a mail handler for twenty three years until illness caused him to have to leave. The caring father of 7 children and 2 young grandchildren, Thomas looks forward to being the best grandpa he can be.
Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Thomas is facing very high expenses including relocating to Durham, NC for seven months to be closer to Duke University Medical Center, post-transplant medications of up to $2350 a month that he will have to take for the rest of his life, and co-pays, lab fees, and more.
To help with the financial burden of Thomas’ uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community- based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax- deductible, and are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution by clicking Donate Now.
Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity. Keep an eye on the website because we will be planning some fundraising events soon.
Gratefully,
Dorothy Carr, Thomas’ wife
