Matt Calvert, pictured with his family, is a 28 year old resident of Coalgate, Oklahoma who was diagnosed with end stage liver cirrhosis in 2008. From July 9th of 2009 to June 28th of 2011 he was on the waiting list for a liver transplant.
At the time of diagnosis it was unknown how the cirrhosis developed, but was theorized to be from genetic causes. In the spring of 2011 he was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden and Lupus Anticoagulant, both of which cause blood clotting. It was then theorized that he may have developed the cirrhosis from some sort of auto or anti-immune disorder. It had recently been discovered that a blood clot has developed within the portal vein leading out of the liver and towards the spleen, along with scarring of the liver which can be evidence of future cancer cells.
In order to survive these complications Matt needed a liver transplant and recieved a new organ on June 28th of 2011. Matt’s family and friends are working together to raise funds for the uninsured medical expenses associated with the transplantation, and they are asking you to please help them. He is feeling very healthy, happy and blessed. Matt is so thankful for all of your help.
Matt has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive – The Leader in Fundraising Assistance and Support for Transplant and Catastrophic Injury in part because HelpHOPELive provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses.
