Our father, Jim Wood has been recently diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and is now waiting for a life-saving lung transplant. He is on oxygen, is unable to work and his illness has now made it impossible for him to accomplish simple daily tasks like climbing stairs or walking his dogs.
Dad is a loving father, grandfather and good friend to many. He grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and graduated from West Catholic High School. He spent many years working in construction and for the past 19 years at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College where he was most recently the Director of Maintenance and Engineering. Shortly after his diagnosis, Dad’s ex-wife passed away and our family is going thru other life-threatening health issues. The past 6 months have been extremely difficult for Dad but he is determined to fight and looks forward to returning to work and spending time with family and friends.
After many years of helping others, Dad is now the one who needs our help. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, a caregiver and Dad will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. These out of pocket expenses could exceed $20,000. This puts our family up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and desperately need your help.
A fundraising campaign in Dad’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
If we all work together we can make Dad’s prospects for the future much brighter. Please know that your contribution counts. On behalf of Dad and our family, we thank you in advance for your kindness, support generosity and prayers.
