Heather was 9 years old when diagnosed with Focal Segmented Glomerular Sclerosis (FSGS), a disease that attacked her kidneys. By age 13 she was on peritoneal dialysis. Then, at age 14, Heather received “the gift of life” from her dad on January 25, 1995, a day we have celebrated every year since. January 2015 will mark the 20th anniversary of that precious gift. However, through on-going monitoring of kidney function, tests indicate “dad’s kidney” is wearing out. Heather is presently being prepared for another kidney transplant.
Since being on her own following college graduation, Heather has managed the financial burden of medical expenses not covered by insurance. Recently this has become more difficult to stay ahead of financially due to the required testing for the kidney transplant workup. When the time comes for Heather to undergo a second kidney transplant, the post-transplant expenses have the potential to become financially draining. She will be unable to return to work for an extended period of time and will not have any income coming in during that time. However, she will still be responsible for the post-transplant medical expenses that even with insurance, out-of-pocket cost could be close to $1,000 + a month for medications, lab fees, co-pays, as well as, the routine monthly bills and expenses.
To help with the financial burden of Heather’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
Your prayer support, as well as financial support is greatly appreciated. Any and all donations are held for Heather until completely used up for transplant related medical expenses. On behalf of Heather, Rob, and I, we thank you in advance for your consideration.
With sincere gratitude,
Rita Yoder, Heather’s Mom

It has been officially one week since the gift of a normal life was given to me by my mom. The transplanted kidney is doing excellent and it has been amazing to see the huge change in my "blood levels" from the day before surgery to now...they look like totally new levels.
Mom and I are doing well, just taking it one day at time, and doing a little better each day.
The out pouring of the love and support by family and friends has been a true blessing from God, and has been/is so greatly appreciated in ways that cannot be explained in words.
The next six months will be filled with many doctor visits, lab work, and adjustment to all new medications and the side effects those bring. But I am looking forward to another 20+ years of health with the new kidney...and praying that it might even be more.
May you feel our Father's love around you everyday.
Blessings, ~ Heather
An Update: First a huge thank you to all who have contributed to the medical fund. The goal was reached this week. I cannot express how grateful and blessed I am to have such a supportive group of family, friends and community. Now for some even bigger news, mom received the call yesterday that she is a match and has been approved as a donor for the transplant! We are still working out all the details as to when the surgery will take place, but it is looking like possibly this spring. I will continue to post updates as I know more. I appreciate everyone’s prayers and support as I approach the time of surgery – I pray that I can remain in relatively good health and have the strength to make it through my busy season at work. In Christ’s Love -- Heather
December has been a difficult month with a hospital admit and then several weeks of recovering from the flu and dehydration. But God has brought healing and I am healthy and ready to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The prayer support and generosity of family and friends during this time has been overwhelming. Words cannot express how truly grateful I am for all the support. The campaign has raised over $13,000 in support. Merry Christmas and may God Bless you in the New Year!
A huge thank you goes out to all who have supported my transplant fundraising campaign. I feel so bless to have your prayers of support and encouragement. As of today, the campaign has raised $4450 toward the goal. Thank you all:) May God Bless you during this holiday season.
I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. As of right now I am still in stage 4 of renal failure with stage 5 being complete renal failure. I will try to keep everyone updated with changes and developments.
Also, in terms of the campaign, a written check takes up to 10 business days to post to the account and a credit card donation takes up to 2 business days to post.
Rob & Rita, Please accept this donation in honor of our many years of friendship and your most generous hospitality. Heather, we pray for you daily and trusting that the transplant can happen soon. ((hugs))

Praying for the funds, the kidney and the peace of God while walking through the process of preparation and healing. Very grateful for the opportunity to help support! Just one logistical question...why doesn't the total raised update or is there a few days' delay? Would love to know the progress of the fundraising periodically so I can help spread the word when/if needed even more.

Just wanted to know that I'm praying for you, Heather. I always have remembered you as a fellow believer who I could feel safe around in the confusion of high school. Sending much love and prayers your way for both you and your family!
