In September 2013 mom was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver which was caused by Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver. Doctors stated it was a result of her Diabetes and possibly the diabetic medications she was taking at that time.
Needless to say our family was heartbroken with the news. She has always been the type of person who has put everyone else and their needs before her own. She loves to do for others and whatever she can to make them happy.
Her condition has worsened significantly since she was diagnosed last year. She is now seeing a Transplant Team in Charlotte, NC., and is in the evaluation process for a liver transplant. When she completes the evaluation process and the transplant team makes the decision that she is healthy enough and a good candidate to have the transplant she will then be placed on the national transplant waiting list. Once she has the transplant she will then have to temporarily relocate to Charlotte for approximately 4 to 6 weeks so she can be closely monitored by the team for any signs of rejection. She will be placed on anti rejection medications for the rest of her life which can be a big monthly out of pocket expense, not counting the other medical expenses.
That is why we have chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.

Mom had her testing done yesterday as part of the evaluation process for liver transplant. It was about 8-9 hours of extensive testing, but she done very well and handled it like a trooper. We are one step closer to getting her on the transplant list and getting her quality of life back. Please continue to keep her in your prayers as she still has a long road ahead of her. Thanks for all the love and support!!
We are still waiting to have the medical testing done and should be going to have that done within the next couple of weeks. Mom is doing good and in good spirits, but she is continuing to go every week to have fluid taken off. I will update once she has all testing complete. Thank you all for your prayers and donations. Our family can never say thank you enough or show you how much it is greatly appreciated.
We were back in Charlotte on 9/24 to see moms doctor at the transplant center. We are still waiting for them to get all the appointments set up for her to have all medical testing done. We also had to see a kidney specialist regarding her kidney function. He stated that it was not her liver disease or diabetes that was affecting her kidneys (which was a huge blessing.) He seems to think that it is where she is having fluid taken off every week and they are not giving her enough Albumin to replace the proteins that are removed with the paracentesis. They have now doubled the amount of Albumin she will get and she will have to have her Creatinine checked more frequently to see if her kidney function improves. Keep checking back on this web page as we will have more information on upcoming benefits and fundraisers. Thank you to all that have donated and please continue to mom and our family in your prayers. God Bless!!
Prayers are with you as you go thru all the testing and future surgery Vickie.
