For over 10 years I have lived in Patagonia, Chile, working as a mountain guide (d) in the fresh, clean and healthy environment of the official 8th wonder of the world, Torres Del Paine National park, miles from any major city, until,…
December 2012. I was in a car accident on a gravel road near the national park and broke my T5 and T6 vertebras. My spinal cord was damaged but not severed, meaning that there is still a chance that one day I might walk again, but for now, I am in a wheelchair.
My life has completely changed. I moved to Santiago, the capital of Chile, for rehab. Every day is a challenge for me, both mentally and physically.
Looking for hope everywhere in the world, I found this perfect place call Project Walk in California (USA) which is fantastic! I am regaining mobility and showing a lot of progress in a very short period of time. This a a good reason for me to go once a year or whenever time and my financial situation allows me to so so. I continue to try and raise money. I am always raising money, no matter what! I strongly believe we create our future and opportunities, and I want to make the best for mine! The more therapy I have, the more I recover. I want to one day regain my mobility, and return to the beautiful mountains of Chile on my feet.
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
