Sometimes we are fortunate to come across “those” folks who touch everyone around them with kindness, humor, talent, willingness and generosity, those who bring light into the world (literally!). Jay Herzog is one of those people; he has created his life in such a way as to elevate others through teaching, counseling, music and love. This year, Jay was diagnosed with NASH Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis and was told that he needs a liver transplant. While Jay hopes to move forward with a living donor transplant before his health deteriorates, there are many unknowns; how long before an organ is available, how long will he be able to keep working, and how will he meet the financial challenge of out-of-pocket medical expenses. The costs, stresses and recovery from this undertaking will be great, but we can all be a part of a successful outcome!

Even with insurance there are many uninsured medical expenses including deductibles, co-pays, travel back and forth to transplant center for pre and post-transplant care, possible temporary relocation expenses and very expensive immunosuppressant medications that Jay will have to take for the rest of his life. While Jay and his wife, Donna are not at ease with asking for support, they have been advised by the transplant social worker to fundraise for a life time of unknowns. We feel the same way; fundraising will allow Jay and Donna to focus on getting well and worry less about finances.
