Troy Seay was born in Pensacola Florida on 16 June, 1985. At 5 months, he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Before his first birthday, Troy had already been hospitalized 13 times. He never let it hold him back though and despite a rather grim prognosis for young CF patients at that time, neither did his Mother. No parent wants to hear that their child is sick, but to hear a diagnosis as devastating as CF is unimaginable to most of us. To hear that your son is destined to a lifetime of medications, hospitalizations, surgeries, breathing treatments and a miserable unproductive cough that would only get worse is bad enough, but to hear that his lifetime may be a brief one is unbearableā¦and unacceptable.
As restrictive as that scenario could have been, Troy never let it hold him back. He attended Milton High School and later Pensacola Junior College. His sense of humor, quick wit and caring nature made him a big hit with friends and family and even perfect strangers. His loyalty is one of his most distinctive attributes…his friendship is a virtually unbreakable bond. This was a quality that would suit him well in the food industry when at 15 years old, he started working at Chets seafood. To this day the folks at Chets treat Troy as family. He eventually moved on and later worked at TGIFridays. From the age of 23 on, his hospitalizations increased dramatically and by 25 he was no longer able to work.
As hopeless as that situation may have been, Troy did not let it hold him back. Eventually he was approved for medicare and social security benefits and while that helped to relieve some of the financial stress, it did not change the reality of life with CF, which brings us to where we are today. Troy is now 29 years old and his health is rapidly declining. He takes over 30+ pills a day..that is more than 200 a week. After multiple surgeries, more than 50 hospitalizations with more and more continuing IV treatments required at home, he is in desperate need of a double lung transplant. To do this, we need your help and your prayers.
Family and friends of Troy Seay are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Troy has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.

Troy and his mother moved to Pittsburgh (from FL) Feb. 9th, 2015 to begin their journey for his final hope for end-stage Cystic Fibrosis.
Troy received his life saving double lung transplant May 3rd, 2015.
Troy’s initial hospitalization begin Feb 11th and he was discharged (with his big, beautiful lungs) on June 10th….just in time to celebrate his 30th Birthday!
Troy and his friends and family cannot be more grateful to the Donor and his family, his awesome and skilled surgeon, the entire transplant team, his nurses and techs, God and of course, YOU…his followers/supporters for your prayers, good wishes, cards, packages and support.
Troy recently completed his 15th UPMC admission but has been out a record 1 month as of this writing! He has experienced many bumps along the way but now seems to be heading in the right direction!
The plan is to remain in Pittsburgh until 1 year post transplant barring any further complications.
The fund amount above reflects the total amount raised….not the balance.
The insurance thankfully has covered the Lion’s share of the approx $2,000,000 costs associated with his medical care.
With that being said, he is still facing very sporty medical co-pays.
The family is still adjusting to being a one income household, as his Mother moved with him to be his medical caretaker….in doing so, she also lost her Medical insurance.
Troy’s Dad is now the lone breadwinner, working hard to support two households.
Again, the plan is to return home to FL mid-year 2016.
This family truly could use any support you can offer….prayers, donations, sky miles, or just sharing this page or his Facebook Page: Go Team Troy
Thank you for your consideration.

Over $14,000 raised for Troy-Thank you so much! Fundraising must continue. How much? At this point, we honestly do not know. Thus far, this is the total to date raised. This money has be allocated for the Transplant evaluation (only), and Troy is on his 6th week of hospitalization…with no foreseeable discharge date in site.
He is looking at much more expense with upcoming surgery, double lung transplant and relocation.
Last figures we researched were from 2011, the average cost of a double lung transplant with no complications was well over $750,000. Currently Troy is responsible for 20%. We are working hard to get Troy approved for supplemental insurance to help offset some of the costs and we will continue to fundraise.
Long due update to this page. Troy relocated to Pittsburgh Feb 9, 2015. He had abdominal surgery scheduled for Feb 19th but was admitted on Feb 11 with bacterial pneumonia and several Co2 retention. Surgery had to be postponed. Here is the latest as written on Troy’s Goteamtroy FB page.
Day 38 at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Struggling to figure out what to say in this update. Our hope was that Troy would be able to improve his lung function with this hospitalization through the typical antibiotic/steroid cocktails and Pulmonary/Physical Therapy/Rehab….before his abdominal surgery. That is not happening. We were advised that there is nothing left in the Doctor’s “bag of tricks”. Our last option is to proceed with a less invasive Surgery for the abdominal issue, pray this removes all the infection in that area and hopefully get Troy actively listed for his double lung transplant. This ab surgery is not without substantial risk as Troy’s lungs will be taking quite a hit with the anesthesia. He has been assigned to the top Cardiothoracic anesthesiologist that practices with the Transplant team. How we wish we had found this hospital so much sooner. As of now, this surgery is scheduled for Monday, March 23. Thank you for the love, prayers, support, packages, cards and gifts. Troy has his cards taped in his room. Thank you to those that have continued to help raise funds, continue to donate and have secured raffle prizes for the upcoming Poker Run. We will be updating Troys HelphopeLive donation page. If you can contribute, organize a fundraiser, participate in a fundraiser or place a coin bank, that would be deeply appreciated. Even sharing this page or Troy’s HelphopeLive donation page, and Troy’s story is of great help. Those of you that are reading this have already “Liked” Troy’s FB Page….now look around this screen for “Share” or better yet, “Invite Friends to Like this Page”. The more eyes that see his story, the more successful we will be in raising the much needed funds to continue this journey. As of tonight we have 639 followers. Truth be told, we would not have made it this far without you all….to that we will always have a grateful heart.
The transplant team in Pittsburgh has decided Troy would be a very good candidate for a double lung transplant. First Troy and his Mother will relocate there and then Troy would have an abdominal surgery. Once that surgery is healed, there is no reason why he could not be listed!
Hopefully the surgery will be done within the next week or two.
Thank you for your love and support!
Troy is feeling much better today and he and his family are planning to begin their trip to Pittsburgh Saturday, December 6 at 4a.m. Once in Pitssburgh they will have an appointment for a double lung transplant evaluation.
Please send prayers and happy thoughts!
Thank you all for your Love and Support!
A quick update:
We were really hoping to be in Pittsburgh for Troy’s lung transplant evaluation by the end of October. Seems one of the criteria to be evaluated is for Troy to undergo an abdominal Surgery (to fix a botched surgery) first. Here in Pensacola. We have been in contact with Pittsburgh to see if they would reconsider… that Troy could be evaluated first there and if accepted for the Transplant program, have the abdominal surgery in Pittsburgh, when we relocate…hopefully next month? We would feel much more comfortable with this in the event there are any complications, Troy would be in the best possible place. We should be getting a decision on this in the next few days. Just wanted to keep everyone informed. Please continue to keep Troy in your healing thoughts and prayers.
Over halfway to our initial Goal!

We need to get to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center this month (October 2014) to begin the lung transplant evaluation process.
At this point, time is of the essence.
With this being said, we are starting the fundraising campaign at $10,000.
Any amount donated will help toward this goal.
Thank you for your help and support.
God Bless you Troy from a long time neighbor and loving friend of Judy Jackson.

Troy, I am pretty sure I met you in 85 you were at the time only 9lbs 1 oz. I remember how beautiful you were and have often wondered how you were doing. Your mother impressed me so much at that time, I was a single mom with an infant at the time and your mother was just so kind. My husband did your cf sweat test. I worked for a pediatric dr as a receptionist. Just want you to know what a beautiful baby you were and now so handsome and all grown up. Praying for your recovery. Stay strong
