Dear Friends and Supporters,
As you probably know, my husband, James Carnes, was injured in a tragic diving accident while we were vacationing. This accident has forever changed not only James’ life, but our life as a family. James broke his neck at C6/C7 level. This accident has left him paralyzed from the chest down and he is now considered a quadriplegic with only a 10% chance to ever walk again.
As most of you know James was very active prior to his accident. He used to enjoy rock crawling with his friends or spending the weekend on the lake. Although James hopes to return to these activities, he has months or years of expensive rehabilitation ahead of him. James was self-employed and provided 90% of the income for our family and has been forced to close his business due to the accident. Although I continue to work, my hours are limited because I am the primary caregiver for James. At this time, we are unsure of when I will be able to return to work full-time. We know that we still have a long road ahead of us but James continues to work hard in therapy and every day makes little improvements, and we remain hopeful that he will regain some use of his legs and return to work in the future.
This has been devastating to us, as you can imagine. The cost of renovating the house, buying a modified vehicle, durable medical equipment, and the months of rehabilitation that will not be covered by insurance, is absolutely overwhelming. To help with these expenses, a fundraising campaign in James’ honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury related expenses only. Won’t you please consider helping James realize his dream of walking, working and living an active life by contributing to this HelpHOPELive fundraising campaign? Your donation would be a blessing and would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for helping.
