Nelson Turingan is only 46-years-old, and in desperate need of a lifesaving kidney transplant. Last year he was diagnosed with a genetic form of end-stage-renal-disease (kidney failure), and he was placed on the waiting list for a kidney transplant at Westchester Medical Center in New York. Nelson undergoes a strict regimen of dialysis, and a kidney transplant is his only hope to resume a normal life.
Nelson worked hard at his job his whole life, and was the main breadwinner for his family. Prior to his illness, he worked six to seven days per week to support his three young children and wife. Because of his medical condition, it’s almost impossible for Nelson to now work; dialysis and frequent trips to the medical center have become his new way of life. A kidney transplant will get Nelson back on his feet, so he can once again support his young family.
Nelson was born in the Philippines and began residing in New York, since 2010. He is a family man, and has worked hard as a Stock Manager in the Central Valley area. Nelson has been fortunate to find the gift of life through a living kidney donor; however his donor now resides in the Philippines. The process to get Nelson’s donor to the United States is costly and time consuming. Airline fees and medical testing for his donor could top well over $20,000. Even with health insurance, Nelson is facing very high transplant related expenses, such as co-pays, deductibles, doctor visits, temporary relocation and travel fees, laboratory fees, and anti-rejection medications that he will need for the rest of his life.
To help with the financial burden of Nelson’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the New York Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider an end-of-year tax-deductible contribution.

Nelson needs our help. He is one of the kindest people you’d ever hope to meet. He loves his family and more than ever, wants to see his children live into adulthood. Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity.
Gratefully,
Jury Turingan (Nelson’s wife)
