In 2013, Mike Morgan was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension; a serious type of high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and the heart. Because of his medical condition and advanced lung disease, Mike’s only hope to resume a normal and active life is to receive a lifesaving lung transplant. Mike hopes to undergo his transplant, and quickly resume his life as an active volunteer and member of his community.
A lung transplant for Mike will be lifesaving, but the costs are more than he can handle alone. Mike was fortunately enrolled by his pulmonologist in the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) Lung Transplant Program. After more than a year of rigorous medical testing and weekly physical rehabilitation, Mike was actively placed on the UWMC bi-lateral lung transplant list. While Mike patiently awaits his lifesaving lung transplant, he will need to begin the fundraising process to pay for the uninsured medical expenses related to his upcoming surgery.
Even with good health insurance, Mike is facing very high transplant-related expenses, including temporary relocation and travel fees, deductibles and co-pays, doctor visits and laboratory fees, and the anti-rejection medications that Mike will need for the rest of his life. These costs are adding up, and expected to exceed well over $20,000 for Mike and his family.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Mike’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support in making Mike’s lung transplant a success. Please know that every contribution, no matter how big or how small, is a blessing for Mike!
With sincere gratitude,
Rozanne McMillan, Mike’s best friend

UPDATE to donors: Mike received a successful lung transplant January 4th, 2015! He is doing very well and blessed to have a new lease on life. Mike's strength and resilience has not gone unnoticed (please click on the above link to read an article about Mike). Mike has found time to go back to work to help cover his post-transplant out-of-pocket expenses. But, Mike still needs your help. Please consider a tax-deductible end of year contribution to help Mike with his post-transplant medications, follow-up visits, medical bills and living expenses.
My prayers are with you now and I am glad the surgery went well today.
