Larry is a 53-year-old man who is very ill and has struggled for years with a deficit in his heart valves. His doctors have told him that his only chance at a healthy life is to have a heart transplant. His life changed over night once he realized that he might never be able to engage in basic activities, playing with his children, or even taking a walk of more than a few yards unless he has a transplant.
Larry was an over-the-road truck driver travelling the interstate of the continental USA. He saw it all– from the mountains, to the deserts, to the green pastures and the big cities. He thought it was a beautiful country – but was dismayed when he could no longer work, let alone walk in these beautiful areas without undue stress on his heart.
Even with insurance, Larry will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the costly anti-rejection medications that he will need to take for the rest of his life (up to $1,200/month). Larry asks himself: “would I even get on a transplant list without additional financial resources to pay for these out-of-pocket expenses?”
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Larry’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity.
