Elaine Kay was devastated when she was diagnosed with liver cancer, the result of contracting hepatitis C from a blood transfusion in 1963. Now, Elaine’s only hope for survival is a liver transplant.
Elaine grew up in St. Louis, MO. and graduated from Central High School. She went to Beauty College in Florida and became a makeup artist and hair stylist. Elaine was force to retire early because of the chemicals she had to work in. Elaine’s husband Victor Kay, family and friends are committed to see her though this transplant that will hopefully save her life. Elaine is a joy to her family and friends; they hope to have her back singing karaoke and line dancing with them in the future.
Because of the cancer, time is critical. Transplants are lifesaving but, even with insurance, financially draining. The initial testing that is required in order for a patient to be placed on the waiting list for a transplant is very expensive, even if the patient is not hospitalized. It is not uncommon for the cost of the transplant surgery and following hospitalization to result in a bill that exceeds thousands of dollars out-of pocket. The expenses do not end with surgery; the anti-rejection medications that Elaine will have to take for the rest of her life can be more than $1,000 each month.
To help with the financial burden of Elaine’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South- Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. We realize that many people face financial stresses. Please prayerfully consider any donation. Also, please consider being a donor. One donor can save one life or many lives.
Gratefully,
