Luis Felipe Calderon is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. In 2012, he was diagnosed with end-stage-renal-disease (kidney failure), and a kidney transplant is his only hope for survival. Luis undergoes lengthy dialysis treatments, which leave him emotionally and physically exhausted by the end of each day. Due to his illness, Luis is weak and has developed severe body aches, and he is unable to work, drive or support his family at this time.
On a personal level, Luis is a native of Puerto Rico, and both his family and love for God are center to his life. Luis and his wife, Noelia have five daughters and eight young grandchildren! His mother lives in Puerto Rico, but travelling to see her has been almost impossible with his illness. Luis’s large family is committed to seeing him through his upcoming kidney transplant. They drive him back and forth to the dialysis center, attend each and every doctor’s appointment, and are actively involved in finding Luis the gift of life, through a living kidney donor.
Luis desperately wants to resume a normal life and be able to support his family once again. His involvement in the community, his church, and his grandkids’ lives has been on hold, until he receives his kidney transplant. The costs associated with Luis’s living-donor transplant are more than he and his family can handle alone. Even with insurance, Luis is facing very high transplant-related expenses including travel and relocation fees, co-pays, deductibles, post-transplant care, and anti-rejection medications that Luis will need for the rest of his life. In addition, his living kidney donor will not be covered by health insurance and costs are expected to be well over $20,000.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Luis’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity in making Luis’s kidney transplant a success!
