Elise Duszak needs a liver transplant, and she needs your help to make it happen. Elise was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Wilson’s disease. Over 20 years ago, her medical condition caused her liver to fail; however Elise was successfully transplanted and had been doing well for quite some time. Unfortunately, this past August, a problem developed with Elise’s hepatic artery and bile ducts, and she faced multiple hospitalizations and medical procedures. It was at that time that Elise was advised she would ultimately need another liver transplant. Transplants are lifesaving, but the costs are more than Elise and her family can handle alone

Elise is happily married, and has devoted her life to staying active and healthy. She has worked hard as a paralegal for over 20 years. Because Elise is often hospitalized, both she and her husband are required to miss work, sometimes for weeks at a time. This financial burden is very difficult for Elise. Even with insurance, she is facing many uninsured medical expenses such as co-pays, deductibles, doctor visits, travel fees and anti-rejection medications that Elise will need for the rest of her life. These costs are expected to add up to well over $20,000.

My day has finally arrived — on July 15, 2016 I received my new liver. Surgery could not have gone any smoother. Came home yesterday after only 7 days in the hospital. I wanted to thank everyone who generously donated to my fund. My husband and I could not get through the last 2 yrs without the love and support of such wonderful family and friends.

Arrived at the hospital last night for the transplant only to learn that the vessels were too calcified for my transplant. So we were sent home to wait for the next call. Fortunately, they were able to use the liver for someone else.
