CJ Kittrell of Chico, TX was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 24. Type 1 is a debilitating disease that has progressively attacked his kidneys and pancreas. In early 2014, CJ went into a diabetic coma which further damaged his kidneys and almost ended his life. Now at 37-years-old, he is completely reliant on dialysis three times a week for his survival. His only chance to return to good health is a kidney/pancreas transplant and he needs the help of his community to make this happen.
Luckily, CJ has been placed on the active transplant waiting list at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas and Ft. Worth. It was no easy task to be accepted onto the list, but CJ has been very proactive in keeping himself in good health and following all doctor’s orders and recommendations. He continues to work over 60 hours per week in order to fund his own transplant; however, funding this life-saving procedure is a monumental task. Even with insurance, CJ will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, travel and temporary relocation to be near the transplant center and the costly anti-rejection medications which he will need to take for the rest of his life. These expenses are more than CJ can handle.
To help with the financial burden of CJ’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPElive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Fund and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution today and click the DONATE NOW button.
Your support is critical to the overall success of CJ’s struggle. Please know that your contribution counts, no matter how big or small. On behalf of CJ and his family, I thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Gratefully,

CJ is being released into a rehab facility today. It costs $50 a day and he will be there for 6 weeks. But I'd like to thank all of you who have been generous enough to give. He's doing well and has faith that things will continue heading in the right direction. Thank you, and I'll keep you updated.
On March 2, CJ received his kidney/pancreas transplant at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. The surgery went well and although he is in intense pain, the doctors say everything is going well. Please pray for the 20 yr old donor who lost his life, as well as the generosity of his family. Thank you all for praying. Please contact us if you'd like to visit him. God bless!
Unfortunately, CJ has sustained a drastic pay cut (earning 1/4 of his previous salary) due to oilfield layoffs and pay decreases. Anything at all you can donate (even $5), would be of enormous benefit to him. Dialysis is taking a toll on him but he's still a champion fighter.
CJ wants to thank everyone who has donated so far! Thank you SO much. God bless!!!!
Officially approved for kidney/pancreas transplantation on November 7, 2014 at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas!
These things are a witness for our lives. Good luck and speedy recovery.
