Melvin Johnson is very ill, and he desperately needs a kidney transplant. Since his early teens, Melvin has been battling diabetes, and has been working very hard to keep his illness at bay. Over the years, the diabetes took a toll on Melvin’s organs, and he is now battling chronic kidney disease. His kidneys have progressively worsened, and he now is in chronic kidney failure. As a result, Melvin undergoes dialysis 3 times/per week, and over 4 hours each day. He has struggled through many significant medical complications and hospitalizations over the years, and a kidney transplant is his only chance for survival.
Melvin has worked very hard his whole life, and held a job for Cytec for over 44 years. He recently retired and unfortunately has spent his free time attending dialysis and doctor’s appointments. Melvin will receive the selfless gift of life from his wife Angela, during the month of February, at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. While this surgery will be lifesaving, the costs are more than Melvin and Angela can handle alone. Even with health insurance, Melvin is facing very high medical expenses such as co-pays and deductibles, transportation and travel fees, donor surgery expenses, and anti-rejection medications that Melvin will need for the rest of his life.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Melvin’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Your financial gifts and prayers will be greatly appreciated. Melvin and Angela appreciate your generosity and support, and any donation, no matter how big or how small, is a blessing for Melvin and Angela.
With sincere gratitude,

Melvin and Angela, You two were the first people I met when I moved to MD. You both showed me unconditional love and respect from the very start. I have watched you two over the past few years demonstrate your “love” and “gratitude” for each other, and God by what “you do” and “what you say”. I am donating to the Help Hope Live campaign for Melvin Johnson to show you and your lovely wife Angela my “love” and “gratitude” for all the things you do. I will keep you both in my prayers.
