Melvin Needs Your Help!

Melvin Johnson is very ill, and he desperately needs a kidney transplant. Since his early teens, Melvin has been battling diabetes, and has been working very hard to keep his illness at bay. Over the years, the diabetes took a toll on Melvin’s organs, and he is now battling chronic kidney disease. His kidneys have progressively worsened, and he now is in chronic kidney failure. As a result, Melvin undergoes dialysis 3 times/per week, and over 4 hours each day. He has struggled through many significant medical complications and hospitalizations over the years, and a kidney transplant is his only chance for survival.

Melvin has worked very hard his whole life, and held a job for Cytec for over 44 years. He recently retired and unfortunately has spent his free time attending dialysis and doctor’s appointments. Melvin will receive the selfless gift of life from his wife Angela, during the month of February, at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. While this surgery will be lifesaving, the costs are more than Melvin and Angela can handle alone. Even with health insurance, Melvin is facing very high medical expenses such as co-pays and deductibles, transportation and travel fees, donor surgery expenses, and anti-rejection medications that Melvin will need for the rest of his life.
