Melissa grew up in Enid, Oklahoma and continues to make it her home. She works hard for a local nonprofit advocating for abused children and doing invaluable work for families within her community. She has been at her job for over ten years, and continues to go to work each and every day, despite her illness. Melissa spends her free time with her four children and husband, who are committed to supporting her through her upcoming kidney transplant.
Transplants are lifesaving, but the costs are more than Melissa and her family can handle alone. Even with health insurance through her husband’s employer, the out-of-pocket medical expenses associated with a transplant and medications are staggering. These costs include co-pays and deductibles, travel expenses to the hospital, and temporary relocation after transplant. Melissa will also be required to take costly anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life. These costs will mount up to more than $20,000, and Melissa needs your help.
To help with the financial burden of Melissa’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
Your prayers, support and generosity will help Melissa receive the gift of life through a kidney transplant. Melissa and her family are very hopeful and most grateful for any donation, no matter how big or small.
Gratefully,
Had my transplant on May 29, 2017, Memorial Day! I was fortunate enough to get my transplant pre-dialysis. I'm happy to report the new kidney is working wonderfully! I love my second chance!!
AV fistula is mature and ready for use when the time comes. The goal is still to get transplanted before needing dialysis. My GFR is fluctuating between 14 and 12. I'm seeing my nephrologist every month. Hoping and praying that this will be the year for me. Thanks for all your support.
All pre transplant work done! My husband is going to try and be my donor. Can't wait for the next step and to get healthy.
Had AV Fistula surgery on December 4, 2015 and then needed vein repositioning surgery in February. It didn't go well and had to have a new fistula placed instead. Still trying to recover.
AV fistula surgery done in December. Not as bad as I had imagined. So far, so good. Thank you everyone for the amazing support.
Thank you to everyone who attend the Bake Sale today! The Goddard Family raised over $500 once more! Thank you to everyone who purchased sweets and donated online. Because of all of you we are closer and closer to getting my mother the transplant she needs to live and longer and healthier life! Continue to spread the word about Organ Donation. #shareyourspare #recycleyourself
Thank you to everyone who has already visited the bake sale today! Remember to stop in before the day is done and pick up some yummy goodies!
just want to say thank you to anyone and everyone that has helped with this journey. The Mystery Dinner fundraiser was the last one needed. You ALL helped me to reach my goal. God bless you!
Oldest son was diagnosed with this awful disease, keep him in your prayers.
CT scan today...doctor says I'm running out of room for the kidneys and that's what's causing the constant nauseous feeling. Time to talk with the transplant doctor to come up with a game plan.
I am so blessed to have a wonderful, supportive husband and children. Thank you to all my friends who are helping with this journey.
Cardiac work up tomorrow. One step closer to transplant.
Upper GI done this week due to the daily heartburn and acid reflux. All tests were okay, so it is contributed to the kidneys pushing on my stomach. Daily omprazle is the solution. Just happy to learn it wasn't anything new!
Thanks to everyone for their support!

YOU can, and are, doing this. Keep plugging away.
Linda
Mom you are a wonderful woman and a great example for not only me, but everyone you meet. Let's hope 2015 is a year of generosity from others and contains the gift of a transplant for you. I love you mom.
