Ross is originally from the Lansing, MI, but moved to Florida with his family in the late 60’s. From there he migrated to the Charlotte, NC where he now resides. Working as a mechanical designer/engineer, he has been with his current company for 23 years. Seven years ago Ross learned that he had PKD – the same illness that claimed the life of his mother in April 1973 (long before any technology was available to detect it). He also has been through two double partial nephrectomies, (removal of 60% of each kidney through surgery), and he has no option left but to have a transplant soon. He and his family are staying positive and are ready for the transplant to help him re-start his life
Transplants are life-saving, but financially draining. Even with insurance, Ross is facing high uninsured expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the costly immunosuppressant medications that he will need to take for the rest of this life (estimated at $1200/month). This, in addition to the fact that he will be unable to return to work for at least three months, has placed a financial burden on him that he cannot meet alone.
To help with the financial burden of Ross’ uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. With sincere gratitude,
Kasey Garrison, Ross’ daughter
well here is the latest... And I don't know if I have enough strength to type it all in... After having my right Kidney removed, I developed a bad infection in the cavity that the kidney left, so I had to go back into the ER to be re-admitted. OK, so 1 week later I'm still in ICU. Think they have the infection under control... Bag hanging out of my side draining infection out. OK let's go back home. Not so fast dude !! Another problem has arisen. Internal bleeding !! Bad internal bleeding. To the tune of 6 transfusions !! OK so we're goin back in for more surgery to repair bleeding. Finally got it day b4 yesterday!! I'm still in ICU !
Please, I still need help !!
Thank You, Ross G.
Thanks to all for your donations ! They have all been a big help so far & I sincerely appreciate the support !
Thanks !
Ross G.
I went to CMC yesterday to set up schedule for complete nephrectomy. Now just waiting on call for the exact date of surgery !! I am so ready to get these out !!
I received some Great news this past Monday from my Brother !! He has been thru 2 days of testing at Wake Forest, & they have approved him to be my donor !! I am still to receive the "official" confirmation from Wake, but I'm still elated at the outcome so far !!
It has help ease my stress level a good bit...
Thank You Brother for hangin in there for me !!
Love You !!
To all, this is the latest...
I've had the fistula implanted in my arm on the 7th. Now just have to wait until it "matures" before they can do a complete nephrectomy & get these aliens out of me.
Then it will be dialysis until a donor is found.
But, I'm takin one step at a time !
Thanks for all of the contributions ! I really do appreciate them ! Stay tuned for the latest...

Well as everyone probably knows by now the devastating news I received the other day about my brother's ordeal as he tried to donate a kidney to me. Apparently some of his stats were not within the standards set by the transplant center even after the TP center told him all is well, everything looks good, & is on go. They called him back and told him it was a no-go ! Needless to say, I was totally devastated !
I realize this was for the safety of my brother's health, but the lack of communication within the transplant center leaves a lot to be desired !!
So now I have to start the process all over again !
I received really good news today from my living donor ! The transplant center at CMC called him today to tell him that his blood match testing has come back as a perfect match !! I had no idea there was such a thing as a perfect match ! I am, to say the least, very excited about hearing the news !! I am close to having to go on dialysis, & this news really helps calm my fears about being on dialysis for a long period of time. I do not have a good feeling about dialysis... But I do have "faith" about getting thru this ordeal in one piece over the next year.
Cant wait to help you with the new life you deserve. Love you brother.
