Many thanks to all of you who have generously given your love and comfort to me as I fought for my life. The circumstances of my survival continue to fill me with hope and joy.
Following one year of liver-related health crises, including end-stage liver disease and liver cancer, my prayers were answered on Christmas Day, when I received a call that there was a match for me! The next day I received the gift of life, a liver. In a 10-hour surgical procedure, I was successfully transplanted by the terrific team at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
I would like to encourage you all to become organ donors. I am growing stronger and healing every day with my new liver. Without my organ donor, I would not have survived and I continue to be humbled and grateful for the donor family’s selfless act of organ donation.
As you can imagine, my relentless fight has resulted in staggering medical expenses. Thousands of dollars in expenses have accumulated and continue to grow because of my need for follow-up healthcare and anti-rejection medications. Even with medical insurance coverage, the cost of transplantation is overwhelming.
To help ease the burden of ongoing medical expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Any size gift will be so very appreciated. Should you decide to give:
