I am a 62 year old man who has worked in various jobs, went back to school for my GED, and experienced kidney failure. Learning that you have kidney disease when you are an active member of your community, going to work every day and contributing to society, is hard to hear. And learning that you need a kidney transplant is even harder, especially because getting one is very expensive.
I was born in the small town of Wallace, NC but have lived in Charlotte since 1968. I have worked in a variety of places and positions; for the city of Charlotte, as a truck driver for a distributing company and as an appliance installer. The thing that I loved most about these jobs was meeting people along the way. Today, though I’m unable to work because of the long hours I spend on dialysis, I try to keep busy and useful doing yard work for my neighbors.
It’s hard for me to ask for help but there’s no way that I can afford to get this kidney transplant without it. Medicare won’t cover all of the hospital stay, labs and tests and post-transplant medications.
I have chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.
