My father, Richard (Ricky) Wilson is 60 years old and is suffering from cirrhosis of the liver. This past year, his health has declined so rapidly that his doctors at Emory University Hospital have told us that he is in desperate need of a life-saving liver transplant. Dad has always been one of the biggest influences in my life from teaching me to ride a bike to becoming a man. I don’t know where I would be without him.
Dad grew up in Morrow, Georgia and graduated from Forrest Park High School. For over 20 years, he worked as a truck driver, driving all over the country to provide for our family. In 1985 he decided to become a builder and over time learned all aspects of the business. He then became a house painter which is what he loves to do. Unfortunately, he is no longer able to work, but I am continuing to carry on our painting business. We are both looking forward to his returning to work once he has been transplanted.
Transplants are a life-saving but financially draining even with insurance. There are many expenses that Dad is facing that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, anti-rejection medications; travel to and from the transplant center and he will need to relocate at the time of transplant. This puts our family up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and need your help.
To help with the financial burden of Dad’s uninsured expenses a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted non-profit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant related expenses only. On behalf of Dad, myself and our family, thank you for your kindness, generosity, support and prayers.
