Our 43-year-old son, Todd Merrifield, desperately needs a life-saving heart transplant! In 2005, with a college degree from West Virginia University and a successful career as a system network administrator, Todd grew very ill. He thought he had developed pneumonia, but after a lengthy hospital stay, Todd was diagnosed with left ventricular myopathy (a progressive and often fatal form of cardiomyopathy). Unfortunately, Todd’s condition has progressed and his heart is now too weak to function much longer. Todd will soon be required to use a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and remain homebound until he receives his surgery. A transplant is Todd’s only hope for survival, and to resume the active life he once knew.

Todd has a very close and supportive family, and enjoys spending his free time at church and with his four nieces (two, of which are pictured in these photos). When he isn’t making trips to Allegheny General Hospital for pre-transplant testing, Todd enjoys helping others, immersing himself in the arts, and playing his guitar.
