Sok Taing, a wife, a mother of two, and a grandmother to two little girls that she adores dearly, is in need of a kidney transplant and needs the help of her family, friends, and community to make it happen.
Sok was told devastating news in April of 1986 that would change her life forever. She was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called Lupus. She started chemotherapy shortly after and was told she would have to take steroids for the rest of her life along with other medications to help her kidney function at a normal level. Her doctors always told her she would have to start dialysis someday, but Sok’s a fighter; she did not have to start dialysis until 24 years later. Her condition worsened quickly and on Nov. 28th, 2010, she was admitted into the hospital and told that she was in kidney failure. Sok started dialysis and was placed on a waiting list for a transplant. She is currently receiving dialysis three times a week and waiting for a kidney.
Transplants are life saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Sok is facing very high expenses including post-transplant medication that she will have to take for the rest of her life which can be up to $1,000 a month, and co-pays, lab fees, caregiver expenses and more.
To help with the financial burden of Sok’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
Thank you for your support, prayers, and generosity.
