Dear Friends, Family and Community,
My mother, Mary Lookingbill Sanford is a 50 year old woman whose quality of life is deteriorating. After being diagnosed with COPD and severe emphysema her doctors at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center have told us that her only option is a life-saving bilateral lung transplant.
Mom is the loving mother to my brother, Eddie, and myself, grandma of six and great-grandma of two. She was raised in Garland, Texas, moved to Florida to raise our family and in 1997 moved back to Texas. She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her family. She hopes that with the transplant she will be able to enjoy the outdoors with her grandkids again.
The cost of a transplant and the medical care post-transplant is overwhelming. A transplant is life-saving and also very expensive. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center, a caregiver, and relocation for possibly up to six months at time of transplant. This puts our family up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and desperately need your help.
A fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a charitable contribution. To make a donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.
If we all work together we can make Mom’s future much brighter. On behalf of Mom and our family, thank you for your kindness, generosity, support and prayers.

After 3 long years and a couple of dry runs my mother received her transplant on Saturday 5-26-2018. We are now 2 days post-op, she got the vent removed today and is breathing on her own with 2 liters of oxygen. She will be in the hospital for approximately 14 days depending on how she does, so I have 14 days to get a lot of money raised to help pay for her rental and 24 hour caregiver in dallas, and medications that she will be sent home with. Every little bit will help if you are able to donate. She still needs lots of prayers for her long road to recovery. Thank you everybody
We love you Mary. Please have a speedy recovery.
