In January 2012, Joe Chamberlain was involved in a car accident, leaving him with C5-6 quadriplegia and a left below knee amputation.
Joe has made amazing progress since his accident. Early this year, he transitioned from a power wheelchair to using a manual wheelchair full time. He continues to make significant strength and mobility gains in physical therapy. Joe started classes at Portland Community College this fall and looking forward to entering a new chapter in his life.
The most significant part of this new chapter involves Joe gaining even greater mobility and independence by returning to driving. He is excited to learn how to drive using hand controls and specialized vehicle modifications.
Here’s where Joe needs your help. An appropriately modified used vehicle is at least $40,000, much more than he can afford on his limited income. Using his savings coupled with a car loan, still leaves him at least $10,000 away from being able to afford a modified vehicle.
To help cover the $10,000 shortfall, a fundraising campaign in Joe’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive. To make a tax-deductible donation, click Donate Now.
Thank you for your continued support.
Joe, I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. You probably don't remember me, but I was part of your family a long time ago, when we use to call you Joey. And I'm truly sorry to hear about your Grandma. She is a wonderful person, I'm sure you know that. Keeping you in my prayers. Beth Santangelo AKA: Beth Chamberlain
