After starting dialysis at the age of 19, Brooke received a living donor transplant from her sister, Michelle. After seven years it began to reject and the transplant was lost. Brooke returned to dialysis for the past 8 and a half years but the treatments are consuming much of her daily life. The effects of long term Dialysis are starting to become very apparent and more severe. Dialysis treatments are three times a week for four hours each, leaving her exhausted. An active person by nature, she has spent a good deal of her time baking and making jewelry. She longs to get her energy back to return to her passions.
A transplant will also give Brooke her time back so she can move forward with all the professional and personal opportunities that are virtually impossible while on dialysis. At the moment, she must follow health restrictions on almost every aspect of life, including not leaving home for more than 2 days at a time, following a strict renal diet and being restricted to drinking 32 ounces of fluids a day.
To help with the financial burden of Brooke’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution. Everything helps!
Your support is critical to the success of Brooke’s transplant and recovery experience. Please know that every contribution counts and helps. On behalf of Brooke and her friends and family, we thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Thank you for your support!
Well, things have been pretty crazy medically again. My arm has been having some clotting issues so it has been on and off and on again with bloodthinners. There is a narrowing in my access that is making it very easily clotted. Back on the blood thinners to see if the clot resolves itself in the next few weeks. My energy has been low and the depression is starting to bang on my door again as it does everytime this time of year. I’m trying to find someone who is good at keeping up on social media like this because I certainly do suck at it most of the time. Everyone who has helped and continues to help me in even the smallest ways( Miss Vonne Bittercup I’m looking at you and Nina and Ryan. You guys seriously kick ass. And this one chick at my dialysis clinic who is also a patient is cool as fuck too. She needs a kidney too. Fuck. I wanna find her one too because she is so fucking awesome…
The nephrectomy went well. A bit sore still but definitely feeling better. Made a Kidney Hunt page on FB as well…check it out here!! www.facebook.com
I have to have in one week, an emergency nephphrectomy of the transplanted kidney from 2003. We had a good run but unfortunately it is becoming necrotic, and making it’s way to a decomposing demise inside me and trying to make it’s own way out. Yes. Tt hurts. So we’re just gonna take that lil bugger out next Thursday at Brigham and Womens’ around high noon. LOL I still have the Appointment on the 5th of August for the fistulagram and to see what they are going to go with my dialysis access, open it or what. Almost outta the woods. Any support you can show here is very much appreciated. The funds the are collected through this site go to nothing but my medical and pre-and transplant cost that insurance will not cover, like parking within the hospitals and medications that are imperative but also ungodly expensive. Read my on Facebook and may be do some research and maybe you’ll find you have it in you to be a donor and help not just me me but perhaps others!!!
thanks for all your time and effort. I appreciative you all!! Time to get a kidney found so I can start kicking life’s ass for REAL!!

I wanted to donate a kidney to someone who needed one, but was told by my urologist I could not because I have a history of kidney stones. If there is a way around this that you know of please contact me. My blood type is O negative. My Facebook is Samantha Cook Browning.

Hey Brooke! I know it isn't much, but I want to help in any way I can. People all too often take health for granted, and don't understand how challenging your life can be on a daily basis. Through your strength, you have taught me that each day, and each breath is a gift. I hope your benefit show is a success, and that in addition to raising money for a great cause, it acts as a great morale booster as well! <3
