As many of you may already know, my brother, George Holbrook suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury following a devastating car accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. George has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair his broken arms and legs as well as damaged organs. He has been in the Intensive Care Unit at Blake Memorial Hospital since the accident in January of this year. Once released, George will need extensive rehabilitation which is terribly expensive, which is why we need your help.
To know George is to know he is a family man with three children of his own; Christine, Stephen and Savannah. He was born and raised in Orlando, Florida along with his 6 sisters and 2 brothers. George is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and on game day, our family can be found together cheering them on. He loves to be outdoors whether lobstering or offshore fishing. Our hope is that someday, in the not too distant future, he can return to his favorite hobbies.
Until that time, his family and friends have come together to do whatever we can to help him on the difficult road ahead. The more intensive therapy programs are extremely expensive but this is where George will receive the best care and hope for the best quality of life. Several home modifications are necessary to bring George home including a ramp, a wheelchair-accessible shower and a lift just to name a few. Fortunately George has been approved for Medicaid but it will not cover the hundreds of thousands of dollars in hospital bills that have already accrued. Because of the enormity of what he faces, we are turning to you to ask for your help.
To help with the financial burden of George’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Spinal Cord injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. I miss you dad. I will do anything to try to support you. I will save as much money as I can then send it to you. I am trying everything I can to go back to Orlando and go to the hospital you are in to see you again. Just to know you are OK makes me so happy. I still want to see you in person. I wish I was right next to you. At least you are OK that is all that matters. One of my miracle came true. I swear when I turn 18 because I am 11 now I will go to Orlando and visit you.
