Many of you are aware that Lorine Lingemann, a longtime resident of Alameda, is battling leukemia. A bone marrow transplant at Stanford Hospital is her best hope for a return to good health. You may know Lorine as the gal with the beautiful welcoming smile at your local grocery store or as the neighbor who brightens your day or as an unforgettable friend.
Lorine is a great person–she is someone who is always there ready to help wherever she is needed. But this time, we need to help her. Family members have been tested to see if any of them were a close enough bone marrow match to become her living donor. Lorine’s sister is a perfect match and the transplant is now scheduled for Sunday, June 28. Lorine remains firm in her hope for a complete recovery.
Even with insurance, Lorine will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, medical appointments and travel and temporary relocation housing for 100 days for herself and a caregiver (who will provide round the clock care) once she is discharged from Stanford. The estimated cost alone for a caregiver and temporary housing is estimated to be in excess of $34,000. Currently, Lorine now has a nurse provide care giving twice a week.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Lorine’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a donation today and click the DONATE NOW button.
Thank you for your good wishes and generosity.
