Cynthia (also known as Cyndi) Clark (formerly Northrup) is an intelligent, fun, 55-year-old giving mother of 5 children, 3 of which she is still raising at home.
Cyndi was born in Michigan and has been in Texas since 1980, working hard to support herself and her family.
In July 2014, Cyndi was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. Doctors told her she had 4-5 weeks to live, but with the grace of God and many prayers, she is still with us today.
Cyndi would have never imagined the time would come when she would need a helping hand. She has always been very independent, putting herself through many years of college until she earned her Ph.D. from TCU, after which she became an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas. Cyndi has taught thousands of students at UTA and has quite a following from students even after they are no longer in her class. Cyndi is no longer able to teach but is doing organizational work for her department. Cyndi is struggling to keep her insurance as a liver transplant costs over $400,000 for the surgery alone. Her health insurance will cover some of the expenses but co-pays, deductibles, caregivers for up to three months after surgery, anti-rejection medicines, which will cost up to $800 a month for and which she will have to take the rest of her life, are not covered.
Cyndi needs your financial support!
If you can find it in your heart to help with a donation of $1 or $1000, please know that every single dollar helps brings her closer to a second chance at life, which will allow her to continue taking care of her family, and do what she loves, which is teaching. You can also help by sharing this link with others through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media.
Cyndi has touched the lives of many and we deeply appreciate all your positive thoughts, support, and prayers. At times like this, the assistance of family, friends, and the community is crucial to ensure a positive outcome.
A fundraising campaign in Cyndi’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. Just an update for everyone:
I had my transplant surgery on June 10, 2016. Everything went better than expected. Just had my last post-op visit with the surgeons and all is great!
I want to thank all of you who supported me, both with your donations and prayers, during this process.
God bless you!

Dr. Clark, I am so glad to hear you are doing well. I was part of the CJ faculty and saw and talked to you often. My mother is a liver transplant patient as well. I'm so happy that you are recovering!

Dr. Clark,
You were my professor for History my freshman year back in the spring semester of 2014. History had always been such a dry subject to me until you came along and changed that for me. Ever since then I haven't thought of history the same way. My prayers are with you. I hope you come back to campus soon so more students can experience what I did.
Oscar Becerra
Dr. Clark, I took two of your classes and never looked at history the same. My prayers are with you.
Latrece (Carter-Hill)
Aunt Cyndi, I love and appreciate you. You are in my prayers often. Sent a donation your way in honor of mom for mother's day. Take care!

Hi Dr. Clark,
I was a student of yours in 2014 my Freshmen year taking history with I always looked forward to coming to class to here your amazing stories. Dr. Clark,
I am a former student of yours. I enjoyed every class period that i attended with you. Anything can be done if you believe. Stay strong. Hope everything goes well, so you can teach other students with all the enthusiasm that you always show. Blessings.

Dr. Clark,
I am a former student of yours, from back in 2007-8. Your class was very early in the morning, but well worth it. Always enjoyable, and it was the first time I found myself truly learning in and enjoying a history class. Needless to say, it was shocking when I came across the article. I will send my thoughts and prayers your way.
Robyn Claridge
Hello Professor Clark,
I'm a former student of yours. We weren't close or anything I just wanted to extend my hand of sympathy, and to tell you to keep your head up. My mother and father both passed from liver failure, so I'm all too familiar with this disease. If there's anything I can do and I mean anything I will. Prayers go to your family and just always remember a day spent without laughter is a wasted day. My mother taught me that one. She was diagnosed with 6 months to live and lived 5 years anything is possible if you believe.
Destiny Adams
Dr. Clark,
I sincerely hope you get well soon. You taught me a lot- unlike most professor who just read out of slides, you actually took the time to teach our class in a "interesting story" type of way. I still remember coming to class and you making us write down all the notes before you started lecturing so that we could really listen to what you had to say. I really do think you are the best History professor at UTA and I pray that you get a liver transplant and continue to live a wonderful life. Thoughts and prayers are with you through this journey of yours.
Zohra Mavani
From all that I have read from your students; you emmulate a true maverick, and for that I support you. My family prays for you and yours.

Dear Dr. Clark,
You're such a great professor. UT Arlington still needs more of you. Please, hang in there. I will pray for you, that you continue to have strength and faith in God.

Dr. Clark,
Truly, you are the best history professor anyone could ask for! I cannot even imagine how hard these last 10 months would have been for yourself and your family.
Please please please remember that "GOD’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with GOD (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left. (Lamentations 3:19-24)"
We support you and pray for you!

Dear Dr. Clark, I had you for Medieval History and enjoyed every minute of it. You make class fun! I will be praying you get back in the classroom this Fall as you desire. Keep going strong you will make it!
Wendy Shepard
It's been nearly 10 years since I sat in your classroom, but I still remember your laughter and your stories. Yours was probably the only 8AM lecture I actually wanted to get up and attend. You have many more lives to touch. Keep fighting, Professor Clark!
LH
Oh, Prof Clark. This news just breaks my heart, but you are strong and courageous! Keep fighting and keep believing! You will make it through this! I don't have a lot on me today, so I made my $10 donation a automatic monthly one! I will be spreading this page and your story as far and wide as I can. You are such a fantastic professor, and we need to get you back where you belong; in that classroom inspiring students like me! Thank you for all that you do! God bless! <3

Keep fighting, Dr. Clark.

You are my favorite professor I have had in my time at UT Arlington. I graduate this May and I have been thinking about when I invited you to the FLOC Luncheon my freshman year. I hope you know how much you inspire your students. Stay strong.
Ellie L.
Dr. Clark,
at times things happen to only makes us stronger. I want to tell you that you are incredible strong. I admire your courage. Do not lose your hope and your faith. I was a student in your class. I took your course in the Spring of 2014. I admire your intelligence. I still do. Your teaching style is incredible. The lord wants you here with us and he will keep you here with us today and for many years to come. Your time on this earth is not over yet. This is an obstacle that has presented itself in your life today. I do not know what you are going through nor can I imagine. I will pray for you. I will pray that the Lord helps us reach that goal of $50,000 and I will pray for you to get a liver transplant soon. God bless you and your family.
