As many of you know, I have been struggling for many years with congestive heart failure. In addition, I am in end stage renal failure. My doctors at Tampa General Hospital have told me that I am in desperate need of a life-saving heart and kidney transplant.
I grew up in Orlando and graduated from Jones High School. I have a wonderful 19 year old son, Lealzo Howard Jr. who has always been a very important part of my life. Unfortunately, due to my poor health, I am not able to work and have been unable to do so many things for so long. I am 42 years old and have endured many surgeries, had open heart surgery twice, suffered a stroke and have a heart defibulator which is keeping me alive. Following my transplant, I look forward to going back to work, becoming an active member of the community again, and living a long and full life.
As you can imagine, the cost of a transplant is overwhelming. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be covered out of pocket. Some of these expenses are co-pays, deductibles, lab fees, a caregiver and I will be on a life-time of very expensive anti-rejection medications. This is where your help is needed.
A fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Heart/Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
