In early March 2015, the Huie family was involved in a devastating car accident. With blessings from above and by the grace of God, the three Huie daughters walked away from the accident with barely a scratch. Their parents, MaryAnn and Kenneth weren’t as lucky.
Kenneth suffered a spinal cord injury, broken ribs and two deflated lungs. He spent more than two months in the ICU recuperating and is now facing life as a wheelchair bound paraplegic. The accident left MaryAnn a quadriplegic due to a broken C7 vertebra in her neck. She spent more than a month in the ICU and hospital before being transferred to a physical therapy facility. Both are now living in a nursing home.
Through the love and support of their family, friends and community, and their faith in God, the Huie family are making it through. MaryAnn and Kenneth have overcome many obstacles so far in the time since the accident, but they have many more ahead of them. While we can’t take away the pain and struggle of their physical challenges, we can help with their financial ones as they face mountains of recovery expenses.
MaryAnn and Kenneth have chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.

Early October Kenneth & MaryAnn were able to go out to a restaurant with their daughters and church family to celebrate their 17th wedding anniversary. What a blessing to see them out of the nursing facility if for a brief time.
Since June, Kenneth has been in the hospital 6 more times. Staying a week or more each time. He is currently in again fighting sepsis again.
Today, Sept 23, marks 1 year of my "convalescing" at the nursing home being separated from our girls. Who we only see 1x a week.
Please continue to pray and share our story.
Been lacking on the updates.
Since March, Kenneth has had three more hospital stays. Immune system has been severely compromised and cannot get healthy and therefore strong. He has continued to fight a stage four pressure sore for more than a year now.
MaryAnn continues to keep a positive outlook despite her and Kenneth living in a nursing home. Downside is she hasn't been able to retain any of the strength she gained while at Lakeshore.
Continued prayers for Kenneth as he is on his 5th week in the hospital. In this time he has underwent two more surgeries. He is feeling better every day.
MaryAnn continues to count the days Kenneth returns to the nursing home.
Unfortunately, Kenneth has been in and of the hospital many times since the last update. He was admitted to the hospital again two days ago. Please keep Kenneth in your prayers as he battles with another round of health issues.
After being separated for 5 weeks due to Kenneth being back in the hospital fighting various forms of infections, he finally returned Monday night to the nursing home MaryAnn has been residing for the last two months. Unfortunately, the reunion was short lived. Kenneth returned to the hospital due to another infection. Please pray for this family as they will be spending this Thanksgiving separated from one another.
Well, it finally happened. Kenneth and MaryAnn are together under the same roof! Bitter sweet reunion since they are in a nursing home and still not reunited with their girls. Their goal is to find a new living situation and be with their girls. If we can raise enough money for them, we can get an ADA house built for them!
MaryAnn was able to use her therapy time to go out beyond the walls of the rehab facility and visit her husband at the hospital. It was the first time they have seen each other in person since the end of May. It was a bitter sweet reunion. Kenneth was not alert for most of the short visit.
Kenneth has been experiencing various health set backs which have caused him to be in and out of the hospital and having had several more surgeries.
MaryAnn continues to work hard in therapy.
Both are awaiting news on their living arrangements. Fingers crossed for an ADA modified home where they can be reunited with their girls but fear it might be nursing facility.
