The family and friends of Scott Brusky are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with the lung transplant Scott needs to survive.
Scott has been a dedicated servant to the community through his work as a Community Service Supervisor, and a tireless servant to God through his work with the Salvation Saloon Posse Ministry. He has ridden thousands of miles bringing hope to many unfortunate and lost individuals, many of whom were suffering at the hands of alcohol and substance abuse. He is also a loyal friend, and at only 53-years-old, there is so much more life and light that he could bring to this world.
Unfortunately, within the last year Scott’s ability to serve in his God given passion and work has been eliminated by a rapidly progressing lung condition called COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) that keeps him confined to his home. Unless something is done soon, this condition will ultimately take him from us. But there is hope! Doctors are currently evaluating Scott to see if he is a good candidate for a lung transplant and, if he is, to place him on the waiting list.
While insurance will pay a portion, there are massive amounts of anti-rejection drugs, antibiotics, and continual care needed to ensure that he recovers completely. Unless the funds required are raised in advance of the procedure, it will not be allowed to occur. Will you step forward and stand in alliance with those of us who desperately want our brother back serving where he belongs? Any donation you can spare would make a difference, and bring hope to someone who has brought so much hope to others.
To help with the financial burden of Scott Brusky’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Ling Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.

My body is starting to adjust to all the new medications.having some stomach issues that will get checked shortly and they tell me the shakes should start going away or they'll add another medicine to help
Thanks for all the help
Got my 2nd bronchoscope last Friday still waiting for results.my lung function test came out very good fev1 was at 85% hasn't been that good since ,,,well I don't remember when it was that good.thanks for all your support
My latest spirometry had me at 80% lung function
Got my second bronoscope on Monday, doctor says everything looks fantastic,Friday I got a call from coordinator saying the biopsy detected a bacterial infection an to start cipro immediately, praying it goes away quickly
Spent the whole day at Tampa general yesterday.my labs are looking better.got to wear a heart monitor for next 2 weeks to check on heart rhythm.and ended the day with a bronchoscope to check for rejection,Doctor says everything looks great
Spent the afternoon at Tampa General, the anti rejection meds caused my magnesium level to drop again. So mom drove me over for the 3 hour infusion. And they scheduled my first bronchoscope for Monday 12/12, along with a heart monitor to ensure I'm not having anymore problems
Spent the morning at clinic, had my first spirometry test. Did 67%, amazing considering 30 days ago I was at 19%. Magnesium levels are off again so back for infusion tomorrow morning.
Sitting here at Tampa General waiting for IV infusion to ward off the cmv virus. I never had it and my donor did. Makes for a long day. Thankfully my mom has been great driving me to TGH twice a week.

Scott, You'll be in my prayers daily. I to need both of my lungs transplanted, but I have end stage emphysema and the doctors say that it's to late for me that I wouldn't make it off the operating table. All my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Almost 2 weekends ago I was so sick and slept for three days, on that monday I had to go to muncie IU hosptial to see my hospice nurse. I was told that I had hardly any oxygen flow in my lungs, and that I lost oxygen to my brain. Now I struggle to remember things, short term memory loss. My nurse explained to me that If had not been checked on those next 2 days I would have passed away. I am scared, I felt alone. Now I read your story I praise you for what you do to raise awareness about copd.
I am so sorry to hear that you have this terrible disease, I'm right there with you
And I'm asking for your prayers to help me through each day. I never mentioned this on facebook, everyone knows that I am terminal. I have wrote about my illness when I found out that I am dieing, but I have been fighting this illness for almost 5 years. Then the doctors only gave me 2 years to live, I have faith in God that when he's ready for me to go be with my lord and savior I'm ready. But, almost dieing a few weeks ago God was there looking after me. It just wasn't my time, he's giving me the power to fight harder.
Please Scott, you have faith and so many people are praying for you. You have God on your side, fight sweetie. You are loved by so many, and God is watching over you as he is me and the many people who fight this illness.
May God Bless You Scott and give you the strength to keep fighting.
We, your family and friends are keeping you in our prayers.
Your dear friend Tracy Schwab
P.S.
Since I found out about my illness, I haven't had anyone to talk to before about this same terrible disease.
I'm so sorry you are going thur this, keep your faith in God. Always remember your family and friends are by your side.
