Kris Pisarcik’s life has been drastically altered since being diagnosed with malignant transformation of hepatic adenoma. Basically, this means that benign tumors are becoming malignant (cancerous) leading to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thankfully, under the watchful care of his doctors at Johns Hopkins, they caught it early. However, they found that the cancer developed from mutations in certain genes and the only option for survival is a liver transplant. Kris is very optimistic, but the financial burden he faces is overwhelming.
Kris is originally from Wilkes-Barre, PA where he graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School. He then went on to study Business Management and Finance at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, where he was also a member of the Detla Tau Delta fraternity and managed the health and fitness programs at Muhlenberg while attending school. After graduating Kris worked for the Department of Defense and moved to Glen Burnie, MD. Kris continued his education at Loyola University, earning his MBA. Along the way, Kris met his beautiful fiancée, Holly, and they expanded their family by adopting an energetic little puppy, Lily. Together, Kris, Holly and their pup are committed to doing everything in their power to ensure that the transplant is successful and Kris has a smooth recovery.
Although the transplant will be lifesaving, it is going to be financially draining. Despite having insurance, Kris will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, and the costly immunosuppressant medications that he will need to take for the rest of his life ( which may exceed $1,000/month). Additionally, Kris will have to take off work for an extended period of time and Holly may have to take unpaid leave to care of Kris – all adding to the financial burden the couple will face.
To help with the financial burden of Kris’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution and click the DONATE NOW button.
If we all work together we can make Kris’s prospects for the future much brighter. Kris could not happier to begin his life with his soon to be wife, Holly, and looks forward to many healthy, joyous years to come being the best husband he can be. Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity. Keep an eye on this campaign page because we will be planning some fundraising events soon and posting updates regularly.
Gratefully,
Gail Pisarcik, Kris Pisarcik’s mother
