Dear Friends, Family and Community:
I’d like to take a moment to update you on our son, Cedric McKinney. It has been six years since Cedric’s automobile accident. My husband and I continue to care for him in our home and he has been doing fairly well. His last hospital stay was during the months of August through October of 2015 when he came down with pneumonia. He was discharged on October 20 and hasn’t been so sick that he required hospitalization ever since. Cedric is blessed! We, as his parents, are very thankful to God!
There is more for which we are thankful. Cedric attended Methodist Outpatient Rehab in Memphis, TN to get occupational and speech therapy for three months. There have been marked improvements, small steps some may not know are meaningful but for Cedric they are milestones. Because of this success, it is recommended that he continue with this therapy. However, once the allotted visits Medicare permits are used, it is not always covered by insurance and is very expensive.
Additionally, we decided that it was time for Cedric to have his own bedroom this year. Through your generous donations to this campaign combined with the loan we secured, his room is complete with a roll-in shower and accommodations for his bed, wheelchair, Hoyer lift, standing frame, feeding pump, and other machines. We are in the process of purchasing a shower chair now. I am still surprised by the expense of these necessities. Just one chair can cost $5000!
Lastly, Cedric’s neurologist informed us it is time for him to get a new baclofen pump installed. This pump is needed to help with Cedric’s spasticity. He must have a new one every seven years. So, as you can see, with the positive comes the cost, and these expenses are adding up.
In 2015, I started this fundraising campaign in Cedric’s honor with Help Hope Live to help with uninsured expenses. Help Hope Live is a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Traumatic Brain Injury Fund in honor of Cedric McKinney. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider making an end-of-year tax deductible contribution today.

All donations are greatly appreciated! Thank you for any help that you can give.

Cedric is doing good. It has been ten years since his TBI on September 4, 2011. My husband and I are still taking care of Cedric everyday in our home. He is certainly a "fighter". We are so blessed to still have him with us. God is giving us the strength to take care of him. God is blessing Cedric!!!
I would like to thank everyone who has made donations to Cedric's fundraising campaign. My husband and I really appreciate your kindness. Cedric is doing good!! We noticed where he is moving his left arm a lot more now. He is making some progress. I know that he will benefit so much from the home modification for him. We are still working towards the goal so we are so thankful for all donations. I know he appreciates it too!!!
Thank you very much,
Joyce and Larry Mckinney
