Paula’s life was thrown into upheaval when at age 53 she was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, COPD. Paula has been oxygen dependent since 2002 and after many hospitalizations and four operations, she has exhausted all treatment options and has been placed on the waiting list for a double lung transplant through the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).
Paula is from Stewartstown and attended Stewartstown Elementary School and graduated from Kennard Dale High School in 1967. She has four wonderful children; Deona, Shane, Shad & Adam Paul and eight wonderful grandchildren that support her daily. Much support also comes from her church family at Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church. Paula spent many years helping others in Nueces County in-patient facility in Corpus Christi Texas and then in York-Adams County PA Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Average first-year billed charges for a transplant can be more than $650,000. While surgery may be covered by health insurance, pre-transplant medical services and post-transplant maintenance are often uncovered, leaving the patient and families with huge out-of-pocket expenses. Even with Medicare coverage, there are co-pays and deductibles and medications that can cost $60,000 a year or more.
To help with the financial burden of Paula’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
If we all work together, we can make Paula’s prospects for the future much brighter. One of Paula’s greatest joys is looking forward to spending more time with her classmates from Stewartstown Elementary School and Kennard Dale High School; as well as all her family and friends all over the US.
With sincere gratitude,
Kathy Orr Dellinger, Kennard Dale Class of 1967

Thanks to all my friends who supported me with a surprise donation on Giving Tuesday! I feel so blessed to have you all in my life as not just supporters but as very dear dear friends~ May the New Year bring you all peace, good health and overflowing happiness~
I want to thank everyone who donated so graciously for Giving Tuesday~ It will be put to very good use allowing me to continue my journey down the road to a second chance for life~
Getting ready to head to Philly Thursday for a much needed tune up. HelpHOPELive makes it possible for me to put a tank of gas in my car, pay tolls and parking, eat lunch and supper, and cover my drivers expenses as well. This is all possible by the awesome love and support of the folks who make my fundraising a success time after time here on the home front with their tax deductible donations. Again this year HHL is taking part in the Nationwide event, Giving Tuesday. If anyone would like to support my campaign, helphopelive.org I would be very very grateful~ Blessing to you all~ #LungStock

I’ve got some great news! After learning about #GivingTuesday, I’ve decided to create a hashtag that our community can use to spread the word about fundraising and the importance of the gift of life through organ donation! Our new hashtag is #LungStock!
Here’s what you need to know:
1. What’s a hashtag? A hashtag is a way to organize online posts (including Facebook posts) so people know what the posts are about. Posts marked with #LungStock will be about transplantation, the gift of life, or my fundraising efforts with the nonprofit HelpHOPELive.
2. You can use the hashtag to help spread the word! Start using #LungStock (same spelling and capitalization) in posts and comments to help me get the word out there. My goal is to register as many organ donor heroes as possible in 2017 and I need your help!
Together, we can make the next #LungStock event better than ever before, and get more community members engaged regarding the importance of being a life saver as a registered organ donor. Let’s work together to make it happen!
LungStock 2016 was a huge success! The first of what I hope to be an annual gathering of my support group turned out to be a fabulous day of fundraising for my HHL Campaign. But more importantly we handed out several organ donation pledge cards which have the magical power to save many many lives in the future. Every person who attended LungStock left the event being an organ donor. That was my ultimate goal and I thank God for being able to send them home with cards in hand! Once again my tribe worked tirelessly to pull together a perfect day of love and fellowship. I want to thank the vendors, everyone for the shirt sponsorships, chinese auction donations, food and music donations, and partaking in the 50/50 raffle. Every ticket sold allows me to stay on a journey that otherwise would be impossible to take. I owe you all my very existence. I hope to have LungStock be an annual event that carries on long after I am gone used to support HHL and The Gift Of Life House so others in need can also take this magnificent journey and have a second chance at a full life~ May God Bless You All And Keep You So That I Can Spend The Rest Of My Life Thanking and Loving You~ #LungStock
WOOO HOOOOO My 31 for 31 was a huge success thanks to my consultant Jennifer Unger-Yingling and all my fabulous support people! Once again I am in awe at the love and support you all show me time after time. Without each and every one of you this overwhelming transplant journey would be impossible for me to continue. You keep that light glowing at the end of a very very long tunnel. God Bless You All~

Kathy and I went to this event on a beautiful fall morning, the leaves changing made for a very relaxing, enjoyable ride. The conference was excellent! After great breakfast and coffee treats we attended Session1: Preparing for your Heart or Lung Transplant. Session 2: Mental Health, Anxiety and Depression Before and After Transplant and Session 3: The Caregiver's Role.
The sessions were excellent and Kathy feels she learned a lot of important information and understands the journey much better now. I am so thankful we we were able to attend, it was a true blessing given to us to help us through this overwhelming saga~

The Bingo was a huge success! I was humbled by everyone's gracious support. There was so many people there I could not begin to thank everyone personally. It was a lot of work and I could never have done it without the help I got from so many of my family and friends. I saw a post on FB saying they had come to know Angels disguised as ordinary people. Yesterday as I looked out upon the crowd I too knew that was what I was experiencing. Before me was my tribe, my people, AKA My Angels there to love me, support me, and make my fundraising event a gigantic success! I thank you all again from the bottom of my heart!
June 18, 2015 I was put in the COPD CO-Pilot Program. It is used to monitor my daily breathing status and is reviewed by my transplant team each morning seven days a week. If they feel I need to be seen and or have a medication adjustment I am contacted by my coordinator immediately. I find it very comforting to be in contact with my team on a daily basis via internet and phone. Here is a link for more information. www.tuh.templehealth.org

I believe Angels play a major part in my life daily. This is a post that Malinda Manifold Davidson made on my Silpada Fundraiser FB page. It is a perfect example how those who loved us here continue to love, protect, and guide us after they appear to have gone. Their soul remains with us for all time~ A man who took me to church every Sunday over 60 years ago is watching over me today~ My angels always lead me where I need to go and if I am not able to get there they come to me~ Thank you Mr. Hersey, Thank You Malinda, and Thank You God for all my blessings~

I am honored to be participating in this fundraiser for Paula. While talking to her, I realized that my great-grandfather, Russell Hersey, used to take Paula to church each Sunday morning while her father was working. That put a smile on my face! My father, Ray Manifold, also went to school with Paula. What a small world we live in. I am hoping to make it even smaller by bringing us together to help a fellow Kennard-Dale student. Blessings to all of you. Thanks for your consideration in helping. All of my profits will go directly to Paula.
Paula Bowman Cummings~
