My mother, MaryLou Philhower has been suffering from diabetes and is now in end stage renal failure. Her only option is a life-saving kidney transplant. She is very fortunate because my brother, Scott is a match and will be able to give her the ultimate gift of life.
My mother is the loving wife to my father Stanley, remarkable mother, doting grandmother and well-respected friend to many. In October of 2012 my mother was diagnosed with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney disease at the same time that we were hit by Hurricane Sandy. We lost our home and all of our belongings. Being very ill and then displaced from your home of many years has taken an emotional, physical and financial toll on her. We are so grateful to all of our friends, family and local builder Michael Bucchino for his help and support as our home was rebuilt. However, her health has continued to decline and she is getting closer to the time when she must receive this transplant.
As you can imagine funding this life-saving operation is very expensive and very few families can meet this challenge without the help and support of others. Even with insurance, there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, lab fees and she will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. We are asking for your support.
To help with this financial burden a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for medical related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.

Please know that your support counts. On behalf of my mother, my father and our family, thank you for your contributions, kindness, support and prayers.

Your adoring cousin, Mair
MaryLou was an amazing daughter and friend to our mother and she was very supportive and an and an awesome sister to Kath-a-ryn, both who are now in heaven watching over all of us to keep us safe, healthy and happy. MaryLou knows how much she means to all of her siblings and how much we appreciate all she does for each of us. For me, gave me the gift of her unconditional love but even more extraordinary Mary Lou gave me the ultimate gift of playing a major roll in the raising of Scott and Marybeth. It was not in the cards for me to bare children yet I feel like I was very blessed to be such a big part of their lives. My heart if full of love for you all and I can hardly control myself to type this message. There are no words to fully express the feelings of love that Mom, Kathy and I had and still have for MaryLou. She is one of the most giving and generous and compassionate people I've be privileged to have in my life. You are so strong for everyone else...please stay strong for yourself. I love you. Friends and family, thank you all for your prayers, support and contributions. Net

Life is often ordinary, sometimes with only extraordinary moments. Throughout my life because of his actions, my brother Scott Philhower, has enabled me to experience many extraordinary moments. And by the giving of this gift of life he defies them all. I am forever grateful for his love, kindness and wisdom. I love you Scott!
