We are writing to you on behalf of our father, Yang Li, who needs a heart transplant and needs your support to make it happen. Our dad was diagnosed with congestive heart failure after struggling with heart disease for many years. To put it in plain English, this means that his heart has become very weak and does not pump blood as well as it should. After years with pacemakers and various medications, we were told that there is not much else that could be done to improve his quality of life, outside of getting a heart transplant.
After extensive testing to determine his candidacy for a transplant, our dad was placed onto the waitlist for a new heart earlier this year. Following a recent checkup, his doctors determined that his condition had worsened to the point that he now needs to stay in the hospital until a match can be found.
Our father has always been a very social person. He enjoys going out with friends and spending the night playing Mahjong or Big 2. He’s well known amongst the Chinese community in the Denver area, and it seems like whenever we go out for dim sum with him, he runs into someone he knows and strikes up a conversation with them. Prior to the decline in his health, our dad would occasionally go to China and Vietnam to visit old friends and family. He hopes that with a new heart, he will be able to travel once again.
Transplants are lifesaving but very expensive. Although our dad is covered under Medicare and Medicaid, he still faces many uninsured costs for the transplant surgery, ongoing medications, extended hospital stay and appointments.
To help with the financial burden of our father’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Midwest/West Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
We greatly appreciate your taking the time to read about our dad. We feel very thankful for your thoughts, support and generosity.

It has been about two months now since our dad’s transplant surgery. He is doing really well in his recovery! This week was a big milestone for him. He just started driving on his own again! He was counting down the weeks until he was able to drive again, and he sure is glad to be able to get places without needing to ask for a ride.
Our dad got to leave the hospital and go home this past week! He still has a long way to go in his recovery, but he is definitely happy to be home for the first time in over a month. Thank you again to everyone for your support. It has truly meant a lot to our dad and the rest of our family.
Love,
Jessie and Tina
Thank you everyone for your support and generosity. We’re so so happy to say that we got the news this week that a match had been found for our dad! His surgery went well and he’s currently in the ICU recovering. The doctors say he’s doing very well and they are hoping to move him out of the ICU soon.
Hope your dad is doing well. We'll say a prayer for your dad's speedy recovery. God Bless!

My mom and aunt would like to donate a little to support your dad. He's a big part of the Chinese community in Denver and they wanted to do a little something to help out. Get well soon!

Sorry to hear about your father's situation. I lost my father to cancer 4 years ago and I know how extremely tough it is on your family right now. Please accept my donation from Michelle and I. Stay strong!
