My name is Chantal Rety and I was diagnosed in 2009 with multiple sclerosis (MS). When I was diagnosed, it occurred to me that I was having symptoms for years prior. I have secondary progressive MS which, in short, means that my symptoms and disabilities linger as opposed to clearing up, as with relapsing-remitting MS. My symptoms have prevented me from being able to work and so I am now on a fixed income which prevents me from being able to afford special treatments or therapies that may help me live a better quality of life.
The same year I was diagnosed with this disease, I lost my mother. I was by her side when she died of a devastating cancer that took her life in less than a year. This was a difficult time for me but life does go on and I know she would have wanted me to remain the positive person that I have always been.
This past March, I lost my father. He was my love, I was his little girl. His passing was not a shock but I was angry for him leaving me. With MS, major life events, or our reaction to them, can trigger MS attacks. In the weeks following my father’s death, I had several flare-ups.
Early one morning, I read about research that was being done using stem cell therapy and its benefits to people with MS. It’s not a cure; however, it can drastically improve the quality of life that is taken away when you are forced to live with MS.
This treatment is expensive, insurance does not cover it and I am not able to afford this therapy on my own. I need your help. My hope is that I can raise enough money so that I can live the life I remember living prior to my diagnosis. I hope to work again and be an independent woman and enjoy the little things in life, like taking my dog for a walk.
To help with the financial burden of my uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Catastrophic Illness Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for illness-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Your support will help make such a difference in my life!

It's been about a year since I started my fundraiser. I am almost halfway there, I'm so thankful for everyone's support. The more research I do about stem cells the more excited I get. It's a therapy that needs to be done. Remember this is not a cure
This is a stem cell therapy that is capable of giving rise to more cells of the same type from which certain other kinds of cells arise by differentiation.
Thanks again and God bless you all for your support
