Barb was born on December 5, 1971, four months premature and weighed only 1 1/2 pounds. Needless to say, she is fighter! She has four wonderful kids, Daniel, Randie, Theo and Devin, three awesome grandkids, four-legged kids, Dozer and Gracie and of course the greatest wife in the world — me!
Barb was a truck driver for 15 years and wants more than anything to return to her passion for the road. Her dream after transplantation is — to be able to walk without oxygen, to play with our three grandkids, to ride a bike, to hike, to swim and just be active.
Even with insurance, Barb will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the costly anti-rejection medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life.
To help with the financial burden of Barb’s uninsured expenses, she may apply to receive assistance from the HelpHOPELive Southwest Lung Transplant Regional Restricted Fund. HelpHOPELive is a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, the property of HelpHOPELive and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a making a contribution today and click the DONATE NOW button.
Thank you for your prayers and support! Together we can make Barb’s future a healthy one!
With sincerest gratitude,
Tiffany Tucker, Barb’s wife

I am terrible at updating! Here we are, almost 9 months out & Barb is doing amazing!! Her doctors say she is the poster child for her transplant. I can't keep up with her sometimes. I stop & think what a miracle it is that we have the technology so doctors can perform the life changing procedures. Thank you to the donor for giving Barbara the gift of living a healthy life full of deep breaths. Thank you to the doctors that have the knowledge & skill to facilitate & complete the transplant safely & efficiently! Thank you to our family & friends for being so supportive!
Barbara Crosthwaite Mowrey had a rough night & this morning. They took her for xrays & they made her lift her arms.. uh no! For hell sakes, she just had major surgery AND still has chest tubes!! She was a hurtin unit when she got back to the room. Jerks!! Any who, the doc came in & said they are going to take out 1 more chest tube today, yeeeee! Monday she with have a biopsy done to check her lungs and there is a POSSIBILITY she can come home on Tuesday, double yeeeee!!! I'm home now & gonna try & catch a few z's. Thank you all for your support! Barb would love visitors.
OK peeps, Barbara has done amazing! Surgery was on Monday 12/28/15. She went to o.r. at about 6:30p and surgery started about 7:30p she was done at 11:30p, they told us 8-10 hours! Then they got her to the ICU & we were able to see at 2a. Her color was amazing, she was alert & wanted the breathing tube out right away! They took it out on Wednesday 12/30/15. She was taking & breathing just great! She is a strong lady that's for sure. We are now in a regular room & they have all ready taken out 2 of the 4 chest tubes.
Here we are, in the hospital. Barb got the call about 9p. She is being prepped, advised..etc. We are happy, sad, excited... Everything & then some. Surgery should be around 7a ish
Here we are, at the the U of U hospital. The insurance finally approved the transplant! More blood work then over to meet with the transplant team. This is the final confirmation then game on! Wait, wait, wait & then more waiting! I never would have guessed 3 years ago that we'd be doing this. It's scary, exciting, nerve racking, hopeful.. So many greetings & to many words to describe. Some days we sit and talk, some days we don't day anything at all but at the end of the day we are supportive & comfortable with the decision Barb came to.
As the thought of transplant is in our minds everyday, we go over every detail of what is going to happen, what should happen, what might happen. We remain positive that it will be a success! I guess no one know what the future will be but we know this will be the best thing that can be done for Barb to live & live a good quality of life without dragging around her "leash" as she puts it.
Well..the transplant nurse called a few days ago & said all that needs to be done now is for Barb to get a few cavities filled & on the list she goes! We are excited & scared at the same time. It seems unreal right now but we know this is going to happen and Barb will come out the winner!
Have a great day! Happy Pioneer Day!
Tiff
As most of you know, Barbara is in the process of getting listed for a double lung transplant. Of course this is an emotional time for our family & friends and we thank everyone for your support!
Now that the 2 weeks of testing for every possible thing you can imagine is over, it's a waiting game for approval (which the doctors assure us will not be an issue).
There will be medications that aren't covered by her insurance, time off work for me, medical equipment..well you get the idea ;) Sooo.. It would be a huge help if you would like to donate even $5.00.
Thank you again for almost your support!

Barbara has ALWAYS been an amazing friend to me. She is one of the strongest women I know. Even when Barbara first got sick, and it knocked her down for a bit, she still came up swinging. I haven't alwaysb been the greatest friend, nor have I really been there for her through all of these life changing events. But there hasn't been a day I don't think about her, or haven't prayed for her and her family. Since the evening I met Barbara, and her wife Tiffany they both have always been inspiring, open hearted, genuine, caring people! I love you Barbara! Always praying, and sending positive vibes to you! Xoxo
