My husband, James (Jim) A. Palumbo’s life was thrown into upheaval when he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and COPD just over a year ago. His health has declined rapidly and his doctors at University of Penn Medical Center have told us that his only option is a life-saving lung transplant. We are now waiting for the “call”.
Jim is a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and good friend to many. He is a Vietnam vet, has worked for over 25 years in the engineering field for a local firm, and also worked for the County of Monmouth, retiring 2 years ago. You may know Jim from the VFW 2140, where he was a past All State Commander or as a member of Rolling Thunder, Chapter 2. You may also know Jim from his over 35 years of playing SANTA to many families in need and also family members and friends, during the holiday season.
After many years of helping others, Jim is now the one who needs our help. Transplantation and follow-up medications and treatments are very expensive. Even with Medicare coverage, there are co-pays and deductibles, medications and clinic visits—costs could top $20,000!
To help with the financial burden of Jim’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.

If we all work together we can make Jim’s prospects for the future much brighter, and hopefully he’ll be out again during this coming holiday season, doing what he loves, making memories with SANTA.
On behalf of Jim, myself and our families, thank you for your kindness, generosity, support and prayers.

New update, Jim received a new right lung this past Monday, 12/7. He is doing great...will post more later this week...
Jim and I wanted to thank everyone that supported us so far, we really appreciate your contribution. Jim did get a call, but unfortunately the new lung failed right before surgery, but it was a good "dry run" We will keep everyone updated, and want to wish all of our friends and family a wonderful holiday season. Naturally our gift would be a new lung, so keep those fingers crossed!
Just a short note to let everyone know we really appreciate your thoughtfulness. Jim did get the "call" on Sept. 14th, but the lung did not pass inspection! It was a good dry run, and we will be keeping updates on this web-site. Thank you again! Jim and Janis....
You are in our thoughts and prayers, Uncle Jimmy. Know that you are loved by you family both near and far and we are here for you! We love you!
