Lisa and Albert Harris exemplify a life full of the Love, I believe, God intended for us to show one another. These parents of uber active teens are busy all of the time. They are Realtors; Albert is an Assistant Pastor at New Life Church in Amarillo and Lisa is Director of Children’s Education at the church. They have coached sports teams, volunteered as chaperones for school events, church events…they are THOSE parents. Involved in their children’s lives because they love them, want to expose them to art, culture, people, places and of course…education.
They were stunned and slowed down a bit with the discovery of Albert’s End Stage Renal disease six years ago. But, they were not bowed or broken. They had faith and believed God would provide a donor. That blessing was closer than anyone realized. Although it was a long shot and with nothing to lose, Lisa was tested. she was a MATCH! And now, this couple, my dear friends, who give their hearts, their home, their wallet and their time to projects and people ..are in need of help themselves.
The sheer scope of their anticipated costs are just plain overwhelming. When the procedure takes place on August 11, Albert will have to stay in Dallas for at least five weeks; Lisa will be there for at least a week, maybe two. That means housing and food costs outside of the hospital stay. Meanwhile, Alyssa and Trey will begin school in Canyon (near Amarillo) — it’s the most expensive time of the school year! Club fees, activity dues and normal household bills don’t simply go away. Have I mentioned that Albert and Lisa are Realtors, which means they live on sales commissions and this procedure means a loss of income when it is needed most. The insurance copay for the life save anti-rejection medications will be at least $1400 per month the first six months and at least $400 per month thereafter.
This campaign is setting a goal of $60,000 to cover medicine, lodging, travel, food and household bills. Those costs are not just for the next few months but to assist them in this first year . Yes, it is a huge amount but I serve a God that is bigger. With Your help and His grace I know we can do this. Lisa, Albert, Trey and Alyssa deserve nothing less.
Sincerely,
Their friend, Jill Bempong

Great week. I was originally scheduled for 3 visit to the transplant clinic this week. Yesterday they told me that I was doing so well they only want to see 2 times this week. My hope is that means I my get to go home earlier than the six weeks that I am scheduled to be here in Dallas.
Great article in our local newspaper tells our story. I cried as I read it.
Hello everyone. Surgery went as well as a surgery could go. We appreciate everyone's prayers, gifts, and acts of kindness. We have been amazed and humbled by the generosity of some many people - some we knew and had relationships with, others totally strangers who just wanted to help. We will treasure this experience for the rest of our lives.
I am in full recovery mode. So far, after a week of clinic visits I am right on track. All my labs are good, vitals are better than they have been in a long time, and the weight is coming down. I check in the hospital 20 lbs lighter than what I was when I was discharged. No I didn't eat enough to gain that much. As part of the process, they made sure I had lots of fluids to keep the new kidney hydrated. I was uncomfortable but nothing like having to go through dialysis.
Man the last six years have been difficult. But I don't think I would change anything. I got to know my God in a whole new way. My children got to see God work miracle after miracle. They now know without a doubt we serve a living God. I got to experience the generosity of people. The testimony from this experience have give many hope. And, my God has received ALL the glory.
It has been overwhelming the number of people that have reached out to me via facebook. I'm touched, honored, and blessed to have known so many wonderful people throughout my life. A special thank you to my classmates and North Little Rock North East High School. Your support and encouragement has been great. I am so blessed to have had you in my life. Eight more dialysis treatments before transplant!!!
Time seems to fly by. It's been a busy week. And as the surgery date approaches we are busy planning. This week Josh Martinez produced an awesome video that tells our story. youtu.be We have gotten a lot of positive feedback. Our pray was that our story would inform and give hope to others going through similar hardships.
Thank you Amarillo Association of Realtors. They announced our good news during the MLS meeting. I wasn't able to be there but Lisa said everyone could not have been more supportive. I feel blessed to live in a place where people are not afraid to say I am praying for you.
Okay, Lisa read my post and became alarmed that some may think "winding down our business" means we are going out of business. Our business will go on thanks to our friends and coworkers in our Keller Williams family. We are working hard to get open contracts closed, buyers under contract, and eventually will give open files to our fellow agents to care of our clients while we are gone. So never fear, everyone will be taken care of.
The countdown begins. Only twelve more dialysis treatments before the transplant. Lisa and I are busy winding down business, planning our trip to Dallas, all while chasing after our very busy kids. Some have asked is it scary. Yes, but it's an exciting scary like a roller coaster.

Albert, I just heard about your situation from a FB post from Greg and had to reach out to a guy I met all those years ago at U of A. I can echo what Greg said about you. You had a heart of gold back then, were always positive and treated ALL of your teammates with respect and kindness no matter what background or string we were on. I wish you and your family the very best and continued happiness!
