Thank you for your support!
Towards the end of 2016 I developed scoliosis which, even with all of the therapy I was doing continued to get worse. It really slowed down my rehabilitation process and even set me back in my standing balance and walking. So much that I barely practiced walking at all for the next two years. In early 2020 I had surgery to straighten out my lumbar spine. That meant more hardware on top of the one I got from the original surgery, but I am a lot straighter now and am making great progress at therapy once again. My trunk stability and standing balance has improved greatly and I am back to walking some with leg braces and a walker. I am glad I am finally back on track in my rehabilitation.
I was jockey for 13 years until I sustained a complete TH5 SCI in March 2014 when the horse I was riding collapsed and fell on top of me. The horse got back up, I didn't. I underwent two lengthy surgeries. The first one was to stop spinal fluid from leaking and to put a cage at T5, and the second surgery was to stabilize my spine from T3 to T8. I have been going through intensive rehabilitation and treatment to beat the odds and get back on my feet ever since. And I am getting better. I can walk a little bit with the aid of leg braces and a walker and have even been back on a horse. But I still have a long way to go, and I know I can do it with the support of my family and friends.
