Linda Horton is a 59 year old woman who is very ill. Linda’s fight with breathing began 30 years ago when she inhaled an over-the-counter pesticide for ants. She unknowingly inhaled this and was rushed to the hospital with chemical pneumonitis. Since then, Linda has doctored and used medication for her breathing. A few years later, she received the diagnosis of COPD a progressive debilitating disease. Linda has end-stage COPD which requires oxygen, medication, extensive testing and numerous doctor visits. Linda needs a lung transplant; without a lung transplant she will not survive.
Linda is an only child and grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she met her husband of 40 years. Linda has two daughters and three young granddaughters. Once her children were in school Linda went back to work in the medical field. She worked her last 15 years in Radiation Oncology as the doctor’s assistant. She enjoyed greeting these courageous patients every day and listening to their stories. The smiles she received were rewarding. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at the beach, zoo, watching them dance in their recitals and so much more. Linda loved having them stay overnight and do arts and crafts and just have silly moments. This all had to stop. Linda barely gets out of the house now and when she does it is an effort. I know her family and friends are committed to seeing her through this transplant so she can once again live a full life.
Transplants are life saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Linda is facing very high expenses not just for the surgery itself, copays and lab fees, but also for the ongoing post-transplant medication she will need for the rest of her life. These medications can be over $1500 a month.
To help with the financial burden of Linda Horton’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
If we all work together we can make Linda’s prospects for the future much brighter. Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity.
Gratefully,
Kathy Mackie, Linda’s Best Friend

I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has contributed to my fund. I would love to thank each individually but I will have to make it general. Thank you for your prayers, love and support.
Linda
I’d like to thank everyone who has donated to this campaign individually, but I do not have access to the information at this moment. So, I will THANK YOU ALL, from the bottom of my heart, in this general note.
You are not only helping Linda financially, you are helping her emotionally, this is such a stressful process, and the added stress of worrying how to pay for it, can be hope crushing. Your support is helping her to focus on the possibilities, rather than the lack of possibilities!
I am a firm believer that focusing on Hope, is a large part of any battle with a health problem, especially a health problem that is this serious. You can find yourself in a state of total despair worrying about finances. I personally understand this, and regret the time I spent worrying about ours while Mark was battling for his life. I could have spent the last few months of his life being a better wife, instead of being a “terrified wife and mother”.
Our friends and family came through in such a major way, that I will spend my life “Paying it Forward”.
I continue to pray that at some point in time money will not be an issue when it comes to saving a life, but in the meantime, I will deal with the current realities, and keep asking for your help by sharing this campaign, the more shares, the more likely it will reach someone else who understands, and is willing to “Pay it Forward”.
Never give up hope! Praying that you get all the medical help you need to lead a long, healthy life!

We will always be there for you through every step of this journey and every breath and hope that the future is filled with positive, happy and easy breathing!!
Love Kristen, Jeff, and Sydney
